Modern Marvels on History channel had a coin op episode last week. Did anyone see this? I think it was a new episode. I missed it and would like to find a cap of it on the web or otherwise. Anyone know where I could find this?
TIA

I have seen an MM Coin Op episode several months back but didn't catch this one to see if it was the same. I can't imagine they would have a new one, though. Will have to look around...

The website seems to imply the first time this episode aired was Nov.25th. So I assume it is a new one. I know they have done vending and some other coin operated type episodes in the past but I was told this one was better. Hulu only has older episodes and I would not buy a box set of any TV show except maybe The Honeymooners or Twilight zone so that is not really an option...

I checked iTunes and they have 58 episodes, but don't see anything that looks like coin-op... The DVD stuff looks like it is the best of or something based on the wording I saw.

Hmm. If it is this episode then it is old.

I didn't find one in the archive for the 25th. I would be interested in this episode, though.

The episode archive on the website is not all that useful (IMHO).

Decent list here

"Coin Operated" episode 520. Shows nothing in 2009, though.

EDIT: I see torrents of the "coin operated" episode out there.

If you want a full episode list for any TV show, use IMDB...

There are 558 episodes of Modern Marvels which is a modern marvel in of itself. :)

Newsgroups binaries... There is a blast from the past... Now I need to see if my ISP has servers available. :D

awesome episode

If its the same one they showed previously it was very good.

I found it interesting, went all the way back to the first coin-operated machine which was in ancient greece iirc. You put a coin in and it dispensed water from a fountain or something like that.

good ep. I don't have a copy of i'd put it up for ya :)

Unless you have some tiny ass isp in the middle of nowhere with the head of the company having been a usenet group admin back in the day, don't count on it. Most ISPs got rid of usenet access in the last couple of years, and the ones that do almost never have the alt.binaries sections available.

Token, thanks for the heads up on that one, I'll grab it when I get home from the office tonight. I looked at the program schedule for the next weekish for history channel hd and didn't see one on coinop stuff (though apparently there's a program on the history of counterfeiting paper money, which should be cool), but they only seem to run 1 ep of modern marvels a day, so a replay might just be a few weeks out.

I have a major provider... They have usenet servers available. I will have to check what groups they have tonight when I get home. I am doubtful that they have all the binaries though. Of course that is what places like http://www.supernews.com/ are in business for.

The binaries groups are likely out thanks to the "zomgwehavetoprotectthechildren" grab for publicity by a bunch of politicians around the end of last year, hopefully it works for you. Supernews looks like a pretty good deal, until the point that MPAA/RIAA start throwing subpoenas at usenet providers based in the us (and they've started to here and there) to get the ID of anyone who's downloaded Eminem mp3s through their servers. At that point a provider based in Germany (who have some very strict privacy laws) like http://www.usenext.com/ would be the solution as they'd be bound by the laws of germany to tell them to shove the subpoena up their ass. :)

If nobody comes up with an nzb for the file(s), I'll post one when I get home and find it.

Thanks. I'll try it when I get home.

I pay for usenet (don't remember the vendor) ever since the cable company put a 2 GB limit per month with financial penalties. Between rec.games and computer programming newsgroups I was doing 3-4 GB per month just checking for new headers .

Not as flashy as the WYSIWYG forum hear, but still a lot of usefull info out there on Usenet.
