I picked up a Modular Circuit Technologies "MOD-EMUP" Universal Programmer and Tester. I also bought a nos system adapter card# SAC-101A. Lets hope I picked up the correct SAC.

Anyway my google is less than perfect because I can't seem to find the manuals for either of these. I did find some software in a file called MOD_EMUP.ZIP from here.

http://arcarc.xmission.com/Test Equipment/Eprom Programmer Software/

I am still waiting for the purchases to arrive and wonder if anyone has the manuals for these two items?

I would also like to ask about the test features of the EMUP !!!

Does anyone use this to test ram like 4116 or 4164's and other chips?
It sure would be a lot better if I could test my chips.

Very good old-school programmer.
Does virtually all Eproms AND and most common Proms

I use mine daily.

(...and yes, the SAC-101A card is the correct card ),
but you'll need an older PC with an ISA slot,
and the ability to run a true DOS Window. I use Win98.

The programmer will test 4164 and 6116 RAM ( is 6116 = 4116 ? ),
and some TTL-74 series logic chip.

But I use mine exclusively for programming.

Cheers,
Steph

It is an *excellent* programmer because you will be able to program some older PROMs and EPROMs that newer ones can't do.

This is actually a re-badged Hilo ALL03. I have a MOD-EMUP-A with a SAC-201B. It's pretty self-explanatory to use, but you'll find a lot of information here and manuals here including how to make adapters: http://matthieu.benoit.free.fr/120.htm

You can use it to test DRAMs, SRAMs, and TTLs. For an older DOS-based programmer it is top notch, especially for arcade gear.

Thanks for the link but I don't see the correct manuals. That site has all kinds of info. Looks like I need to spend some time over there. Hey do any of you guys have a pdf all ready? What software do you guys use? Can I download it somewhere or do I already have the correct stuff?

Now...

If it can test some of these 74 series logic chips, I will be one happy camper! Is this a fast process and is there a list of what this unit supports test wise?

I guess its also time to brake out my PII tower and re-install win98.

Thanks for your posts!

'prog.dev' file does not exist !!

I am trying to configure the burner tonight and have hit a roadblock. This is where i am at atm...

I set up a folder C:\emup with the contents of the MOD-EMUP.zip from http://arcarc.xmission.com

I ran this command below in a dos box inside win98 and the software started up

C:\emup\access

My Results are --> 'prog.dev' file does not exist !! Press any key to return

Take a look at my desktop shot below or the full version on my website.

So where is prog.dev ? What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any of your time!

Let me add some more info...

I cannot find the correct manual for the MOD-EMUP. I did read the Hilo ALL-03 manual where it refers specifically to the (SAC-201) ISA card. It gives the settings for the dips on that ISA card but again only for the (SAC-201).

I do not have that ISA card. I have the (SAC-101A) ISA card and again I cannot find the specific manual for that cards settings. So i am stuck atm and i hope one of you guys will share some knowledge.

I keep reading about the speed of the computer and if its two fast it will cause problems. I was wondering how fast are the computers that you guys are using?

I am running a PII 400mhz Celeron with 512mb of ram. I am sure its way faster than the 286's/386's/486's that I see running this system in very old posts on vector list. This is the speed they recommend in the manual...

What are your thoughts on that. I do have a little slower system P1 but not by much. I haven't seen a 486dx in about 150 years... All though im sure i have the processors around here some damn where.

Well I got it working software wise with (release 9.12). This is really very slick!
