MMAO over PM - Can we just ban this activity here please?

Give the mmao crowd their own forum . If it hasn't been done already. That way you contain the willing participants.

On/off topic

Whilst I think the real answer is "any game is worth what you are willing to pay for it", it would be nice to see the final prices on at least game sales. If you are using this particular community to sell your product, it would be nice to give a little back. Or don't. I think most here only care to a certain degree. But as an example, I have some boards that I can't find recent prices for. Does this mean they are rare and priceless or a hunk of crap that nobody is bothering to even sell? I'll buy that for a dollar!

Let the market decide. If the mmao forum works, mozaltov! If not there you have it.

Yeah, what this forum needs is another sub-forum...

:)

Management even implemented a MMAO prefix when you post for sale threads...

So with that...

nor is it about minimum offers...

Sorry but everyone on here isnt broke, if they were..they couldnt afford to continue the hobby...

everyone on here sells things for profit (90%) to make ends meet buying other games...sometimes ppl take losses, but most of the time they are making money

I really find it interesting that the IMMEDIATE assumption always seems to be that EVERYONE is looking for a bargain. I said nothing about anyone's motivation for why they are buying/selling their stuff. Just threw out the POSSIBILITY that there are lots of different motivations.

Make your profit if that's what you want to do. Make friends if that's what you want. Rip off unsuspecting buyers or sellers if that's what you want. Your motivations are your motivations. Really has nothing to do with me. I'd like the forum to be a safe place to interact in this hobby, but threads like this one keep reminding me that there are enough self-centered people here that you're never safe giving anyone the benefit of the doubt.

To you. This forum "is about" different things for different people and when you start projecting YOUR point of view on others, that's where you come off the rails IMHO.

Last I checked (at the top of the page)...this forum was part of the Vintage Arcade Preservation Society...so it's not really projecting MY point of view.

3 points:

1. Someone once told me that whoever throws out the first number loses.

2. When I do a live KLOV auction, it's because I need some quick money and I don't want to dicker with tire kickers.

3. In my case, this isn't a hobby and I always have bills to pay: "Nothin' goin on but the rent!" I have a small shop and 2 storage units that require monthly stipends as well as a ton of other expenses. I have a large collection of parts and pieces that need to go, but it takes time away from paying work to manage a sale and pack/ship items safely. I love selling things like owl eye coin doors and boards for repair, but it takes time away from paying work so it has to be profitable or I can't do it. That's why I love selling to local guys. I can sell cheap and make a good profit, but when I have to pack and ship items, the opportunity cost cuts into my pocket. Not whining, just stating the facts. I don't have any help so anytime devoted to selling random items directly cuts into my productivity.

I've seen your live auctions, and none but just a small number of whiners have had a problem with them, so I'm pretty certain your activities are not the ones people take exception with.

No... you are. But go ahead... what does this forum mean to ME... for example? I'm curious.

BTW... you might want to re-read the front page. This forum is part of the KLOV (Killer List of Videogames) division... VAPS is a different division... as is Penny Arcadia, etc. Greg makes it very clear that the 501(c) charity (and VAPS) are a separate entity/division to KLOV (and this forum). But go ahead, I'm dying to know what this forum is all about... to me.

PS: I love it when a guy who's been around for just over a year... who has about 10% of his posts in this very thread... schools me on this place... I get a warm fuzzy feeling in my cockle region...

Please... carry on...

It's a place where you can come and hang out with your beloved fellow friends. Hold hands and sing "Kum Bah Yah" and tell us how your day went.
And in the morning , make us waffles.

No one was singling you out (im sorry if you thought that, was not my intentions at all)...its not an assumption, this is a real fact.
Im 100% OK with it, as it is what it is...but i have no problem voicing my opinion about it...

some are better than others...and others are not...

Nor did I intend to single you out (or even disagree for that matter). I agree it's common and expected that people are going to try to get the best deal they can. I guess I'm just optimistic that smaller communities can behave better than society in general (my baggage though...I live just outside Baltimore, so I've grown tired of people legitimizing bad behavior by saying "it is what it is"). :)
