So I'm in the beginning stage of restoring my newly aquired Medevil Madness.. Started cleaning it, but keep stopping cause I wanna play it :)

Pin has no errors, correct amount of balls installed, factory default setting.. But only spits out 2 balls for multi.. Meaning no third ball is ever on the playfield.. Anyone have a clue? Switches are ok, everything is registering.. Just no third ball :(

Thanks for any help.

Don't THINK there's any 2-ball modes in there, but there's so many freakin' ways to activate multiball I can't keep track, so I'll ask the obvious.

Every multiball mode?

The usual culprit is ball trough opto boards. If nothing loose and all working next up I'd check the V grove at the bottom of the ball trough for divots. They get bigger near the end where they shoot up. If you have them easy to remove the ball trough, coil/bracket end, stick a big flat file in there and file the grove smooth again.

Long shot is the balls have become magnetized and aren't rolling down the trough good.

LTG :)

Yep trough sensors, go into the service menu and see if the sensors are activated, it should also give you a missing ball error. Go into the switch edge test mode, Take the balls out, drop them in one at a time, see if the trough switches all activate. Might need solder work on some cold joints, also might have a bad transmitter. Use your camera phone to test. You can actually see them light up in the camera.

Hope that is a good starting point for you.

are you sure you don't start multiball too soon ? there's both a 2 and 3 ball multiball mode..

if you only get one of the shots (ie you've only shot enough times the catapult) and then shoot into merlin to start multiball you'll get a 2-ball multiball.. when you have 2 or more lit (ie catapult and enough damsel ramps) and then shoot into merlin you get a 3-ball multiball (and more points for jackpots)..

Still not working

So I pulled the balls out and dropped one at a time during the switch test. 1-4 show up in the troth.. So the sensors are fine. No pitting either.. No missing ball

To answer the 2 ball multi, yes some of them are just 2 ball.. But I'm not ever getting a 3rd and a lot of the time I'm not even getting a second..

I'll just keep digging through this.

I would bet that if your optos in the ball trough are working...you probably have divots in the ball trough.
If you put the machine in test mode....go to the eject balls test. Make sure all of the balls (4 of them I think) are in the machine. See if the machine will eject all four, without letting them re-entering the tough. Basically catch them before they are shot on the playfield, or before they re-enter the trough. Try this several times. Make sure that every test starts with 4 balls in trough, and see if it is able to eject all for balls....emptying it. If you let the balls go back into the trough without catching them...the problem will not occur. Basically the machine will drop ball 1 into the plunger and shoot it. The balls in the trough should roll forward, and then ball 2 should be plunged into shooter...and so forth. Most likely the balls do not roll forward after ball 2 is shot...because a divot is in the trough. When you drain a ball, this will push them forward in the trough because of the impact, but the divot prevents them from just rolling into the plunger naturally. If you do have divots, you need to take the trough apart and file them smooth. (Hopefully this all makes sense)

Divots

So last night I pulled out the trough and inspected it in better light.. Guess what, there are 3 or 4 sets of divots! Course out of all my tools, I don't have a good file.. Just never had a use for one till now.. Heh.. I also noticed when I tried to eject the balls (with game off) one would pop out, but the next few kinda hung.. So that has to be the problem.. Weird how there isn't an error or something when the balls don't eject during multiball.. Guess they didn't program one.

Is filing down the best or just the cheapest option? As I looked around and found this:

Seems like they are sold out on Marco's site, so I sent an email to Mantis..

Awesome!

That's why I asked! I'd much rather the $6 upgrade rather than dropping $100 on something that is hidden from play.. I've got plenty of other parts and upgrades I'd like to spend so cash on :)

Thanks for the link!

In the meantime i'll file it down, just so I can play it..
