Hello, I have a problem with my mk2 sound or lack there of I just bought it. I watched it be tested and it worked fine so I know it works but when I got it home all I get is a distorted humming or buzzing. It in my sf2 cab and I'm at a loss here I've tried everything I can think of( in menu sound, ribbon cable, speaker wires,) can anyone please help. Thanks Josh

sound

You will get a high pitch sound going up and down if you do not have the -5v going from the cpu board to the sound board. I believe it is pin 6 from the power plug on cpu to pin 6 on the sound power plug.

That high pitch sound is exactly what I'm getting. Now this is going to sound like a noob question because I totally am but how do I get it to -5v. Thanks for helping

what kind of power supply is this

you basically have to not only have a power supply that outputs -5V, but also make sure the JAMMA harness is wired for it.

the 5th/E pins on the JAMMA harness should have wires like in this pinout here:
http://www.jammaboards.com/jcenter_jamma_pinout.html

if not, then you won't have anything to hook the -5 to. :)

what kind of cab is this? that might help.

It's an old gauntlet cab but it had street fighter 2 in it when I got it and it works just fine. Not sure what kind of power supply it uses as I am a total noob. I think I'll try to research what I got and let you guys know thanks for the info

if it's that old, it's probably a screw terminal type. SF2 doesn't use -5 for sound, so it's probably just the JAMMA wire's not hooked up to the PSU. maybe it's that easy...

grab some pics, that'll help.

Dude it had a wire hanging from the 5 pin and I connected it to the -5v on the terminal and it works fine. easy fix after all. Now I just need to figure out how to wire the mk2 kick harness to the old sf2 kick harness. Thanks to every for your time and help now my mk2 has sound "excellent"

you won't be able to use the SF2 one, unless you have an adapter for it unfortunately.

they're two different monsters. lol

Right anyone know where to get one? I went to jammaboads.com but all I could find was a sf2 to mk1 adapter. Seems like that would work. Anyone know for sure? Thanks

you probably could get away with an SF2->MK1 adapter, however, you will have to rearrange some pins on it. MK1's kick harness pinout is slightly different than MK2-MK4, but with the kind of connectors jammaboards uses, you should be able to pop the pins out with a small flathead.

or alternatively, since you're gonna be buying new shit anyway, just get an MK2 harness and be done with it.

if you want to switch between SF2 and MK2, get some extra microswitches and just leave them all hooked up to the respective kick harnesses and leave the unused ones floating under the control panel and snap them into the button when you want to play that game.

I used to do that when I switched between Tekken 3 and KI/MK2/UMK3.

Just ordered my mk2 harness. Thanks to everyone for their time
