Ok, read a bunch of threads on this and am still having issues.

  • Received a MKII pcb and soundboard.
  • Removed UMK3 and plugged it in.
  • Goes through ROM check and comes up with CMOS error, restore to factory settings and using dip switches.
  • Pulled 2325 lithium battery.
  • Metered and putting out .29v, yes .29
  • Replaced with another lithium battery that tested at 2.99v
  • Reboot game, still has error.
  • Reset in settings to factory settings.
  • Turn off.
  • Turn back on, same error.
What am I missing?

Clean the contacts on the battery holder. Make sure it's not loose fitting on the battery.

Turn the game on and let it "charge" for a while. I know how that sounds, but try it and I bet when you cycle power the error will be gone.

Interesting fact -

I am unable to select Free Play through the menu.
It goes to the menu, option is there. Hit a button to change to Free Play. Makes a sound (guy screaming) but does not change the setting to Free Play..

Ok, pulled the battery holder off and installed a new one.
CMOS Settings saved!

Still have an issue with Free Play and will start a new post...

i always feel funny when you say this. there is no charging of the cmos it's just got voltage or no voltage.

regardless glad you got your socket sorted out!

That's what I thought too.
I fully understand how to meter a lithium battery. Not sure why holder was bad ...

Also, where the hell is the cmos on a MK pcb???

I fully understand how to meter a lithium battery, but unclear how to do it in it's holder.

you can meter off the 2 legs on the solder side. polarity shouldn't matter

what do you mean the chip itself?

Does anyone have Schematics for the MK series of boards (if PDF format)?

I've Googled my fingers off an haven't seen any. :(

Glad you got it fixed! I give the "Charging" option a mention because I had a board that was doing the same thing (CMOS error, changed battery, wouldn't save anything) but I found that when I turned the game on, played it for a while and turned it off, the next time I turned it on, the settings saved.

As for the Free Play problem, when the voice screams when trying to make a change to that option, that means that your dip switches are set to not allow changes via the menu. Check your dip switches.

yes, got that. Not what I was meaning to type....I was unclear on why the holder was bad. Looked good, but as it was said, most likely a broken soder/trace.

Yes, the chip itself.

Ahhhhh. Didn't know that....

How can I change that? All dips are physically off.

strange, maybe there was some corrosion or resistance in the line somewhere causing the voltage to take a lil more to get there, who knows, could have been a cycling of the power that reset it too. ah well.
