I've been looking for a MKII cabinet locally to no avail, so I'm looking into building a repro (better than gutting a real cab anyway I reckon) and my question is, are there any plans for a MK or MKII cab available online that are accurate? I've looked at Jakobud's plans, and while the dimensions seem correct, nothing is rounded and he left out all the angle measurements. I'm not looking for 100% consistency (I would leave out the access panel on MK for instance), but I would like to be able to use authentic control panels, overlays, marquees, etc...

If anyone can point me in the proper direction for accurate schematics/plans, I would be very appreciative!

The biggest problem you will run into is the side art. As far as I know, and I have looked. No one has repro'd the full cabinet side art.

So in that case your best bet would be to do MKII. However good repro full length side art runs well over $200.00 from what I have seen.

However...

Where do you live? the cabinet for MKII is the same for MK3, UMK3, MK4, War Gods, Killer Instinct, Killer Instinct 2, and a few others still.

They aren't terribly rare cabs.

Hope this helps.

Andrew

I was going to go this route, but finding a MK2 cab is actually a lot easier than it seems.

Jackobuds plans are off by a little bit, I was using sketch-up one day copying the Jacko plans to a T and things started to become off only by 1/4 inch or so.

My advice, keep looking for a MK2 cab, A LOT were converted to Golden Tee, you could also use a NBA Jam/Blitz/showtime/ect... cab and just have to make a new control panel box and panel.. Just some ideas

the cabs can be found anywhere from FREE-$250.

I've been looking for a couple months, for any of the later Midway cabs, Blitz, Golden Tee, etc... all to no avail.

I've looked all over my local area (Gainesville, FL) and haven't found anything. There's a guy in Ocala who sells cabs and parts, but he doesn't have any Midway cabs. I have found a couple complete games, in poor shape for outrageous prices, but I don't want/need a whole game, just the cabinet as I plan to use it for MK9.

keep your eye out they do come up. I normally will drive about 150 miles 1 way if the cab is the right price and something i definitely want.

Sometimes when you meet a collector or Op the first time you'd be amazed at what they have and what they'll sell it for.

I recently picked up a NBA Jam cab converted to a golden tee with no monitor for the cost of $25

+1 wait for a cab.

You will find me dogging on using the reproduction artwork out there in it's current state (it's been overly cleaned up...little dots from the original silk screening have been photoshopped out) but If you find a cab that's pretty much a goner, it beats the crap out of throwing it out.

Memorize the shape and side panels...and you will be able to pick out a converted golden tee in no time.

If you want the MK2 look...you really should aim for an MK 2 cab though. MK1 has a slightly different cab, so does MK4 from my understanding (might be wrong on this). MK2/3 share the same cab...but if you find a dedicated 3 it's the rarer of the two, and I'd recommend restoring it to a 3.

You make be able to convert a Jam/Blitz but the control panel will be a 4 player...and reproing a new MK CPO is a pain in the ass due to the metal top, but it would get you a heck of a lot closer than a DIY.

If you can find the metal overlay panel from any MK cab you can re use it just by drilling out holes for the studs, or you can just buy a repro one that has the adhesive backing.

I recently had a friend clone me a MK2+ CP box (only cost me $60) it's an amazing piece and he even gave me a blank CP with the edge already routed for t-molding. if you got a 4 player cab and really wanted to play with your wood (lol jk) you could make your own CP box and make it a 2 player super easy.

My plan was to plaster over the sides with MK9 sideart and mount an LCD & PS3 in the cabinet, which is why I'm not dead set on an authentic cab. I just love the shape of those Midway cabs (those, pacman, and nintendo cabs are my faves) and would love to have the new game in a cabinet, but would feel kinda poopy gutting a nice cab or working machine to do so. However, I would like the cab to have the same "stance" as an authentic MK cabinet (so that it "feels" at home with it's brethren).

I prefer the MKII and later cabinets, but the classic MK cab is the classic MK cab, so I would be more than happy to use it as well.

MK4 vs MK2/3 the only difference is the T-Molding as far as I can tell.

If you were to take a classic MK cab and cover Johnny Cage with plaster I would have to drive to FL just to beat you with your own shoes...out of principal.

What you are planning on doing is essentially MAME-ing a cab up. There are plenty of MK-Style cabs out there. Like the list I gave eariler and if you aren't worried about the CP, Blitz and NBA Jam will work as well. I think even Gretizky's Open Ice whatever it is called would work too.

Have you tried posting in the WTB section of these forums...I am sure someone will come up with something. That is a really common cab you shouldn't have too long of a wait before one pops up.

yeah, come get me on your way down, I'll join in on the beating. :p

I'd be especially infuriated if the sideart wasn't faded on it.

I appreciate no one mentioning Killer Instinct style cabinets for this goofy operation. whoops...

Yes.

For the love of Pete please do NOT hose a decent MK cab. Please find a bastard with horrible side art, or better yet a Blitz! I do like the idea, just don't kill a nice MK cab. Restore those.

P.S. Don't hose an NBA Jams with good art either, one day we're all gonna regret the lack of those jewels as well.

Rule of thumb: Get a cab with nice original sides? Restore! Get a cab with utter crap sides, go nuts!

That's why I was going to go the repro route. Gutting a fine cabinet seems like a waste, when I'm sure someone would love to restore it.

I've been looking for a while for an older MK/Blitz/NBA Jam/Etc... cabinet locally for like 3 months, and haven't had any luck. I'm not even particularly looking for MK, just a cab with the same dimensions (essentially any '90s era Midway). I can find a cab online, but shipping is cost prohibitive.

Gainesville, FL. The offer is nice, but I'm pretty sure the shipping would be killer (what is the cheapest shipping method?).

You might be able to do freight for a $100-$200.

I thnk if you are patient and maybe use these forums here and possibly BYOAC you will find one in no time.
