Not sure if I should put this in the Restoration section or not because I am not technically restoring anything. I recently bought a very nice MK4 that I am adding to my collection. I also came across another MK4 is lesser condition that I wanted to convert to MK3. So, here is the preliminary work. I still need to make a control panel and have the art printed up, but that's about it....

Nice job mike! is that the GoG side-art?

Thanks. Yup. I love the art, but the adhesion factor is sorely lacking. What I do is spray and industrial strength adhesive on the side of the cabinet before application. I also don't cut the art off along the edge. I leave about 1/8" to fold over under the t-molding so it keeps it from being able to be accidentally torn off. Make sense?

wow just watched your u tube vid a second ago lol. i was just saying that if they get the rainbow and turbo on one board ill have to get a mk cabinet. my girl is gonna kill be but who cares right lol. sick work man

I have some questions. I am thinking of getting a MK ( any , want II). I have access to a dedicated MK 4. I also have an MK 1 board without sound card. Are ALL MK cabs wired the same?? Are sound cards interchangeable between the series?
I also have access to a lot of other MK style cabs that look like they were converted to other games like NFL Blitz etc. Were all of those cabs originally MK dedicated??

All MK cabs are wired the same with the exception of the LK harnesses. MK1 Y-Unit uses a different LK harness. MK1 (T-Unit) - MK4 all use the same one. All the boards are interchangeable in all the cabinets as because they are all Jamma.

Gotcha. So how would I get the LK harness? So an MK4 sound board would work with MK1.

MK1 can use the new kick harness which is the same as the MK3 kick harness as well

ONLY THE T-UNIT main board uses the same kick harness as the other MKs. The Y-Unit uses a different harness.

No. Only MK1 and MK2 used separate sound boards. MK3-4 used on-board logic for the sound. MK3-4 only had one main board. MK1-2 had two boards, main and sound. MK1's sound board is only usable on MK1 and the same goes for MK2.
