My fairly newly acquired original MK2 machine worked great for a while but the test chime started dinging 10 times in a row. The sound worked great with no problems otherwise. I decided to check the chips on the soundboard so popped all 7 off carefully and wiped the connections down with rubbing alcohol and reinstalled them. Did this one at a time so I'm pretty sure none of them went in backwards. Now I have no sound at all (apart from the 10 chimes when I start up the machine.)

What might I have done and what should I check?

check the xtal at y2 make sure it's there and doesn't have a broken solder leg.

also next time instead of rubbing alcohol use 400-600grit sandpaper, and gently/lightly sand the legs down (don't go crazy as it will remove some material).

Also, when you hooked the board back up, did you make sure to put the ribbon cable back on correctly? Pin 1 of main board to pin 1 of sound board?

Yes I'm confident the ribbon was installed correctly, I even tried flipping one side around just to double check. I took a look at Y2 and there might be a broken solder point, I'll try to get a picture to get your opinions.

If it is broken solder, is this something that can be fixed or am I looking for a new soundboard?

10-20 second fix by someone who knows how to wield a iron. all is not lost :D
