Hi everyone,

I haven't been here for a while but that doesn't mean I'm still not heavily involved in the arcade scene. I've just switched forums to UKVAC which would be more appropriate given I'm in the UK.

Mortal Kombat is far more popular in the states than in the UK but its popularity is slowly growing over here also.

I recently repaired 4 MK2 sound board PCBs that I've had for quite some time, so long ago I can't remember when I acquired them. One was an infamous repair from a member on here (from ages ago) - I think he changed every cap and numerous other things on it but it didn't fix the issue. I just fixed that one yesterday - it was a bad U24 (74ACTQ245).

So I'll cut to the chase. I had a curious fault on one sound board that generated 10 'bongs'. After numerous internet searches I couldn't find anything relating to that. The 10 'bongs' (now that I know) would indicate a problem relating to one of the L6116PC RAMS at U32, U33 or U34. Unfortunately, it isn't sophisticated enough to tell you which chip has the problem or associated problem but it should be one of those three RAMs. It was U34 in my particular case but after pulling the bad chip and then testing in all three positions I got the same 10 'bongs' error sound.

I hope this helps anyone with the same problem - I know that there are a lot more sound boards over the pond than over here.
