Hey guys. I was turned onto an Ebay auction for an MK2 main board that was labeled revision "4.1." by our friend ph4ntomlord...

4.1 is not a known revision of MK2. Here is a list of known revisions...

...anyway, I snagged the board because the price wasn't bad and I wanted to preserve this unknown revision if it WAS indeed 4.1. Well, is was NOT 4.1. It was something called "X2." This is even stranger. I dumped the roms and used them to overwrite the 3.1 revision roms so I can show you guys what's up. I have played the game straight through a few times with different characters and the ONLY difference I can see between this "X2" and 3.1 is X2 has fast uppercut like Challenger, but that's it.

Regardless, it's now preserved and we have yet another new MK2 revision to mess around with. Here's a quick video of it in action. Thoughts?...

Glad you snagged that one up Mike! I had a feeling you would...:)

can you hit me with a ug/uj12 link? I'd love to burn a copy tonight and play a bit.

Found another difference between this and 3.1, I was just playing this in MAME and I fought Noob Saibot after 12 wins. Just wanted to share. :)

***Also, I don't know if it's just me, but the AI seemed much more toned down than usual. Hmmm IDK?***

I was playing it today and got to play PONG after 10 wins. It seems to be random though and when I got to 10 wins the next time, I didn't' get to play. Strange.

Yeah that is strange....hmmm. However, if that IS the case....I think I would much rather prefer the randomness.

Possibly an early version of 4.2? I have 4.2 running in my MKII cab... I think it may actually be the only MKII rom set I have.. I know that on 4.2 you hit pong after 16 wins. Noob Saibot is after 6 wins in a row I believe.. It has fast upper cuts and you can do the dead pool nonsense. Also you can get to smoke any time Forden comes out (1 player games as well).. And one more thing I noticed... If you get to Jade you'll end up dropping back down to like the 2nd or 3rd fighter on the ladder. Doesn't matter if you beat her or not.. You can continue to get to her but you'll never finish the damn game. Haha

It's gotta be a random thing, cuz just today I was playing and I reached Noob at 12 wins again....and then played pong after 15 or 16 wins. ????

So basically another hack, right?

That website doesn't have all the revision stuff correct, the biggest omission is Shang Tsung's 3rd fatality was added in 3.1

That would be my guess. I'm no expert on the matter, but it does seem to be some form of a prototype to one of the other hack revisions....possibly 4.2 or Challenger. Who knows? Only time will tell I suppose.

I just figured out that a simple uppercut will knock your opponent into the acid on the Dead Pool stage...just like Challenger. Only difference is that you CANNOT do any additional moves thereafter. Interesting.....

Anybody else messed around with this revision and found any differences yet??

My rom burner is a royal pain in the goats rear, i haven't even attempted to burn these roms yet as i'm pretty positive it'll just fail >.<

New burner is on the menu for the near future, i'll report after.

Cool man, I've been fiddling around with it here and there...but still have yet to find any more differences. As far as rom burning, I just had Mike burn me a set. :) Otherwise I play it in Mame for the most part....need to replace my monitor in my MK cab.
