I just bought a non-working MK2 main board that has 3.1 revision in it. What's weird is that while testing it, I noticed that on EVERY round, Jade/Smoke show up and give their clues. Now on Mame, you can use the cheats to make this happen, but this is happening on the actual hardware. There is nothing in the service menu that allows you to turn these "clues" on or off and I actually had the screen that asks you to put your initials in after a long win streak come up after the FIRST win!

Here is a video explaining it in more detail. I am going to dump the roms to Mame and see if it happens again. If so, because every time you start a game in Mame, it reverts the game to factory default and there are no active cheats, Smoke/Jade showing up will appear to have been written into the code of this particular version of 3.1

Thoughts?

Could the board not be saving settings and could Jade/Smoke be programmed to show up a lot at first and then become rare after x amount of games.

Could be. I just dumped the revision roms and over-wrote the regular 3.1 revision roms in Mame and it does not do it. Strange. I thought it may be something with the game roms themselves, so I dumped ALL of them and repeated the process. Nope. No Jade/Smoke clues. Appears to only do it on the actual hardware. I'll do some more research and see what I can find.

Yup. It's something with the actual bad main board itself. I took all the roms from the bad one and put them on my good spare board and....no clues. It runs normally. Looks like tbbk's theory is correct.

Sucks. Thought I scored another rare item. Oh well. Thanks for taking the time to read the thread anyway.
