MK2/MK3 hybrid cab

I am kinda partial to BadBoyBill's MK9 cab. He has a whole project thread for it on the Hyperspin forums.

I was talking to Doc Mac at GG back in February when I was there for the Shang Tsung Fight Night MK tournament and asked if I could get a copy of that MK9 cab artwork to use for myself. He didn't say no, but he didn't say yes. From how he was describing it's origins, I picked up that he didn't really want to give it out, so I didn't pester him. He's a cool guy.

I was thinking about how I might approach the subject with them if I were to ever bite the bullet on building one. I think I might ask if they could get more artwork printed and I would buy the prints... that way they don't have to give out their source art.

Do you know what console they're using in the cab and how they're interfacing the controls? I would assume PS3 since thats what they used in the Injustice cab plus theres the extra fighter in the PS3 version.

I've seen that cab... I really don't like machines setup like that... too much wasted space. It works well for shooting games where forcing the player to stand back as makes it more challenging.... then again that looks like a re-imaged Terminator salvation cab anyway.

I think the Galloping Ghost version works really well because MK9 is all about the game returning to it's 2D playstyle roots so it only makes sense that the arcade machine would be based on the classic cabinet design.

Yes, those are exactly what he based the cabs off of. You didn't see many showcase cabs back in the day because most of the games really wouldn't have looked very good on that size monitor anyways. Its a different ballgame when you take current generation fighting games and run them at 1080p on a 46" screen. They look fantastic but you can't pull that off unless you go with a showcase.

It all depends on space. I personally don't have the space for a cab like that right now but we are house shopping now. If I end up in a place with space for something like that, you can bet I will be building one. There are plenty of current gen fighters on the consoles to make it a worthwhile endeavor.

They are using a PS3 and gutted MK9 arcade sticks. These things...

I kinda like that MK9 set up.

I wish Midway would of made the control panels that big back in the day with mk 1-3. Probably would look weird with something that long for a 2 player, I was young but remember you get the machine hogs who take up half your space trying to play each other or the over weight ones who have no choice but to be all up in your space.

I like to be comfortable with some room to play. No elbow rubbing.
