I don't know if this really belongs here, but I don't really care, anyone saying go over to BYOAC or whatever can shove it. This is the community I visit and I have a bunch of real arcade games also.

This was a MK4 is pretty good shape. I totally junked it up and brought it back to life as an infinitely more interesting cabinet to me. For one MK4 side art is horrendous, along with the game itself, it has no place in my arcade, but MK2 and MK3 to me are classic, 2 of the games that really got me interested in arcades in the first place.

So that said this is the cab that started it all for me, and it's finally done (well almost, it's damn close)

My original idea was to either get a MK2 or MK3 and then put whichever one I didn't get on one side to make a hybrid cab of my two favorite MK games. I eventually found a MK4 so decided that would have to do. I gutted it, sold the MK4 board for some nice change (it paid for my side art) I got really lucky and someone here or on the other forum mailed me a complete MK2 control panel. what was really lucky about it is the art on it held up, even though it had been painted over and some other overlays had been applied to the top. I was able to get all that crap off and restore it back to a MK2 control panel (but it was converted to Street fighter 6 button layout so that was the only bad thing, it works well as a MAME control panel though)

So I MAMED the thing and it was to be my only cabinet, but then I got the fever and now have 10 games instead of 1, though I think I'm about done with the collection for now.

I still have the MK4 control panel and I can slap that on to get the MK layout. So only thing left to do is either get a MK2 or MK3 control panel top somewhere, or junk up my MK4 top with a MK3 overlay so I can complete the cabinet with the right controls. I could try just putting the MK4 top on here but the colors don't really match and I think it would look goofy.

Why I am making this thread is I finally got around to putting on the MK2 side art on the right side covering that abomination side art of MK4, I don't even know who the hell that character is nor do I want to, it has no place in my arcade. I could stand no longer looking at that big goofy face, it didn't entice me to play some mortal kombat more like it kept me away.

anyway I think the thing turned out nice and it's the perfect MK tribute in my arcade, one less MK4 in the world but one more MK2/MK3

I dont know why this thread didn't get any love... but I love it! This is exactly what I need to do to save space and still have all the elements :p

kind of an interesting setup... MK4 is kind of a turd IMO so you'll see no love lost from me for converting it to something else :50:

My only recommendation would be to put the MK4 CP in there to get the proper layout... I actually think the MK 6-button layout is a bit more versatile than the capcom 6-button for mame... if only because the run-lp-block-hk button line works well for most games that require 1-4 buttons in a row (it's essentially the neo-geo layout).

I just realized this thread is a few years old... who bumped this from the grave?

Look at the dates of the posts. JohnB.

It was a rhetorical question designed to make the bumper feel bad.

GoG art was the only thing available back then. that control panel needs to go back to BYOAC tho ;-)

Personally I would of tried to make a custom split marquee and cpo half mk2 and half mk3 just to complete the look. Wasn't there a mk1/mk2 like that on eBay a long time ago. I know I should keep bumping this old thread but I can't help my self.

Galloping Ghost makes liberal use of split marquees actually, cause they have many cabs with 2-in-1 switchers. their MK3 for instance is a MK3/UMK3 with a switch.

I could find out where they get their marquees made at if you want.

Eh no thanks, I gave up on trying to save space with a mulitgame cab. I can't help my self from wanting the full dedicated cabinet. Now if you can get them to sell the artwork for that custom mk cabinet they made recently. I'd purchase that for sure.

I love that side art.

That is artwork for Mortal Kombat 2011. Its a great game but was only released on consoles. That art has been used by a few people making console powered dedicated MK 2011 uprights.

Actually Galloping Ghost worked with Netherealm studios for that artwork... they basically got super high resolution images to work with and then designed the all the cabinet art for that...

They did the same thing with their new custom Injustice Arcade machine (which is apparently widened from the standard Midway cab)

Here's a good interview that gives you some insight into how they build the machines: http://www.starslay3r.com/?p=5597

I can understand how to widen most of the machine but I'm curious how they made wider versions of the metal parts like the speaker grill, and glass brackets.

I am going to come in here and officially say that I like MK4. :D

I liked that it was different from the others (e.g., 3-D plane, weapons, etc.). There are so many Mortal Kombats out there, and some were real duds IMHO. But I like MK4.

P.S. The duds I was referring to were console games, not MKI, MKII, MK3, or UMK3.

I was talking to Doc Mac at GG back in February when I was there for the Shang Tsung Fight Night MK tournament and asked if I could get a copy of that MK9 cab artwork to use for myself. He didn't say no, but he didn't say yes. From how he was describing it's origins, I picked up that he didn't really want to give it out, so I didn't pester him. He's a cool guy. Btw, much to the dismay of Mecha...I actually won the UMK3 tournament...(I faced him in the final)

(First part is my qualifying matches (best 2/3) 00:00 - 2:23 I am Player 1. The second part is the semi final matchup (best 2/3) 2:24 - 5:21 I am Player 2. Final matchup (best 4/5) 5:40 - 11:03 I am Player 1.)
