I have an MK2 cabinet but it's in rough shape like there is a huge hole on the side of the cabinet. Been wanting to find a way to patch it up one day.

But today I have an opportunity to purchase an empty MK4 cabinet for super cheap.

I was thinking of transferring my MK2 internals into the empty MK4 cabinet.

Are they the same cabinet? Looking at purchasing MK2 artwork to go on the MK4 cabinet. I should be able to transfer my marquee and I can just remove the control panel on my MK2, and bolt it directly onto the MK4 cab right? That's my biggest question, I'm not sure if the bolt hole placement is different on the MK4 from the MK2

I'm also missing the rear door on the MK2, so hoping the MK4 backdoor will fit.

Anyone know if there is big differences that will make this harder?

Bumping this, hoping to get an answer. Otherwise I'm going to go ahead and purchase the MK4 cabinet and hope for the best.

I think the mk 2-4 cabs are the same, save for the button holes on the control panel and the tag on the back designating the game. If there is a difference I'd be surprised.

Also mk4 has terrible side art and I like to pretend that game doesn't exist.

the wood has some differences on the sides.

there's also the issue of Mortal Kombat 4 not having an isolation transformer. which if using a K7000 would necessitate swapping Mortal Kombat II's power assembly over.

nobody's going to think you're not cool cause you're running Mortal Kombat II in a Mortal Kombat 4. the side art being a sticking point for some people aside.

The control panels button layouts for MK2 and MK4 are different so if you were planning on getting a MK2 cpo for the MK4 it won't line up.
I understand the layout is different. My plan is to take my existing MK2 control panel and installing it on the MK4, so unbolting the MK4 control panel and bolting on the MK2. I just hope the 4 bolt holes align.

Does that make sense?

Those should line up fine if you are just moving the entire control panel box over to the mk4 cab. I can check the bolt hole placement since I have both those games

Oh wow! Good to know. When you said "the wood has some differences on the sides." are you referring to shape or type of wood?
