I picked up a mk1 pcb with sound board. Its the y unit board. It boots then bongs 5 times, then no more sound. Game play is fine just nothing audible. Tried increasing the voltage and reattaching the cables. No change. Volume pot is connected. Am I over looking something?

My MK1 had a tricky connection between the main PCB and sound board, causing all sorts of rebooting and audio issues. I never really did track down where the cracked wire or trace was.

I found that 'flexing' the sound PCB was able to cause the problem to appear/disappear. So, I wedged a piece of cardboard from a pizza box under it, and it's been working ever since.

Ok, maybe not the BEST way to fix the issue, but it worked for now ;)

reflowed solder. found a bad cap on the sound board and replaced it. now it thumps when a sound should be played. (the sound when you first turn cab on) so i either get bongs or thumps.

MK1's different than the rest. there's no test menu volume adjustment because MK1 (both Y and T-unit varieties) uses a 50k ohm volume pot instead. without this volume pot installed, you will have no sound.

strangely you will hear the boot up BONG sound, but there will be no sounds otherwise.

the multi bongs are actually error codes for sound rom failures. wasn't aware of a 7 beep code though... the 5 beep one sounds more realistic.

verify that you have the volume pot installed/installed correctly.
