As mentioned in a few of my other threads, I have a Dynamo HS-27 cabinet that originally had Tekken Tag in it, that I am converting to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Yesterday I started making a new control panel for the cabinet. It's my first round of the design, but it was pretty close:

The Tekken Tag control panel was in good shape, but the wrong button layout, so I started by copying it on the table saw and router:

Then I cut a piece of .09" plexi to go over the artwork. I cut it to shape with the router, and then sandwiched it between the control panel and a piece of scrap plywood to cut the holes with a forstner bit. I had never worked with plexi before, and it needed some deburring, but it didn't crack anywhere.

The Midway cabinet control panel used on the Mortal Kombat series is 13 1/4" x 26 5/8" rectangle, and the Dynamo cabinet control panel 11 3/4" x 27 1/4" with rounded corners and the top corners set in a bit, so the artwork had to be modified. I dislike the MK2 and MK3 control panel artwork, so I started with the MK1 scan, and modified it to fit. I removed the MK logo between the start buttons, and moved up the whole design to fit with some wrist room. I widened the pattern in Photoshop, and unfortunately as you can see, I miscalculated one aspect, so the Midway logo is cut off. I will fix this in version 2. Overall, it turned out very well, and the run button doesn't look that bad. I maintained the exact button placement as the Midway control panel, and verified it several times before drilling:

So, it's a great start, and now I have the correct button layout to play my favorite arcade game from high school

You made it look easy, nice work. I too have an HS-27 and will be doing the same thing for multiple control panels. I'd like to change the lower portion of the control panel and utilize a quick connect hinge for easy on and off. It may take a few designs to get it right but if done properly I hope I can swap out control panels in under a minute.

Good job,
Andy

I know this thread was to show my custom control panel, but I wanted to add, that the marquee makes all the difference. I am happy with how this cabinet looks now, compared to it's Tekken Tag days!
