I currently have a MAME PC, an arPIcade, and have used a Pandora Box in the past, but I've never used a MiSTer and am curious about it. I have a few questions - sorry, some probably very stupid.
1) While my MAME PC using LaunchBox and the arPIcade both run MAME for the emulators, is that what a Pandora Box is using as well or does it use a different type of emulation?
2) I understand that the ROM files for MAME are replicating the code on the game PCB - is that basically what a MiSTer core is? Are these just game ROMS in a different format or does a MiSTer still use the MAME roms but just calls them "cores"?
3) to play different consoles, I know there are different emulators that "run" the roms in something like a PC or raspberry pi set-up----meaning you have an emulator that acts as the system and then roms that act as the game itself. Does the MiSTer function the same way or are the emulators and roms baked into one "core"? (may be a duplicate question as #2)?
3) It seems like a PC running MAME is the most powerful option here and with a jPac can be put into a cabinet with a CRT with some additional work. That said, what's the benefit to going MiSTer, arPIcade or Pandora Box beside some plug-n-play options...especially if I'm putting one into a cabinet with a CRT?
