Granted I tested it for this setup tutorial with a SNES game but the amount of CPS and CPS2 stuff I've played in the last week has been awesome. Not even counting the perfect Neo Geo core...and I own all this hardware as original pcbs lol

If the emulation isnt 100% accurate I certainly can't tell. Anyone else pick one up yet? I cant wait for the JAMMA board to go up for sale

Agreed. I’ve got one in my Pac-Man cab and I love it. I use a J-Pac and an audio amp to get into the Jamma harness.

FPGA Commando, 1942, Donkey Kong, GaPlus, etc. It is very cool.

And that's like 1% of what it can even do for arcade uses. It's crazy how much the thing can actually do

I've been on the fence about getting one of these. How easy is it to switch cores (games)? Is there a user-friendly front-end?

No user friendliness to it unfortunately. But, you can boot to a core and get to menu via joystick & button combo. Basically, I boot to Donkey Kong. Guests just play donkey Kong unless I switch the core for them.

That matches what I've seen and TBH your solution would probably work fine for me. I've started pre-loading NBA Jam on my MAME machine when we have quests so they don't have to screw with the menu.

I almost pulled the trigger on a MiSTer last year during the quarantine but ended up getting a Retrotink so I could hook my Atari 800 up to a modern TV instead. The MiSTER is a pretty amazing device.

A lot of those golden age games are not that accurate. Newest version of Mame plays most of them better than Mister....for now anyway until they do more work on them.

Yeah but that's one of the good things about the open-sourcedness. Anyone can always file issues on github or make their own core.

The nice thing, though, is that you have standard hardware and no worries about OS and booting. MiSTer is plug and play for the most part. With MAME, you have to worry about computer, OS and configuration, all of which may or may not work well. MAME is great for what it is, but, for the games that are executed well, MiSTer is awesome. Load up Pac-Man/Ms. Pac Man, Double Dragon, Street Fighter or Commando (there are many more good ones -- check out Jotego's cores for some awesome work) on the MiSTer and you will see the possibilities of MiSTer on well-executed FPGA arcade games. The good ones are just about up there with Jrok and BitKit. As I always say, though, FPGA is cool, but it all depends on the detail and completeness of the implementation. There are several cores that are incomplete or incorrectly implemented.

Actually, Mister does have an OS it boots from. Your argument for MAME isn't a fair comparison either as there are distributions preset up to boot and run so you don't have to worry about the computer, OS and configuration as you say. Plus you do have to setup Mister as well and it isn't documented nearly as well.

If you are going to hype Mister, which seems to be all the rage to hype in the past year, just be accurate and do fair comparisons.

They are both cool in their own way. I’m fine with hyping them both and have no agenda other than personal experiences with both (I’ve had a MAME cab running at my place since 2004, so I am definitely a fan).
