Missile command

I don't know about you guys, but I buy games that I like to play.

There isn't much point for me for owning a game I don't play and don't enjoy. Okay, unless my kids or future grandchildren like one.

sorry, I took it off topic. I just cant stand it when someone says no game is worth $xxx. Maybe its not worth it to you, but that does not reflect reality.

I agree I normally only buy games I like, but I did buy primal rage, trog, and armageddon magic the gathering for my nephews as they liked those games. The wanted me to get the grid, but I did not want to buy 2 of those.. THey were happy with the rush 2049's. I did buy a bunch of laserdisc games because my friends liked them, but they are all gone as laserdiscs are not interesting to me. I did like mach 3 and firefox, but not enough to keep them.

Is it worth that or what would you pay
I'm going to catch hell for this but...

I wouldn't even pay $100 for Missile Command. Quite frankly, I don't think that I would even take one for free.

I totally understand my opinion means nothing and does not reflect reality but MC is just never "clicked" with me personally. Way too hard and lacks any kind of risk vs reward system. And yes, I obviously suck at it and people typically think a game must suck if they suck at it. But it feels like Atari made it hard for the sake of it and not much thought beyond that was put into the game. I love the concept but dislike the execution.

But again, my opinion means nothing. If you think the game is worth $1000 to you, then who cares what any of us think?

Just remember that buyers define price...NOT sellers. As a buyer, you have the control to offer less. It's up to the seller to take it or leave it.

Different strokes, right? We've had many epic competitions on my Missile Command. It's an easy game for anyone to step up and play without having lessons. You only need to know what's obvious from watching the demo: "DEFEND CITIES"
One of the things that makes a great classic, IMO.

Oh absolutely. It's always fascinating to me to hear about what games some people hate but I love and vice versa. It's one of the things that actually makes this hobby fun. Learning about games you never played or thought they sucked because you just didn't understand them and never game them a 2nd chance.

Totally agree. The concept of "simple to pick up but hard to master" is the hallmark of a great game. They certainly nailed that concept with Missile Command.

I suck at Defender and Stargate but I'd never say a bad word about them. They're awesome.
I'm also not very skilled at MC or SMA, but it represents my youth and I luv it for the memories it provides.
I won't ever sell mine. Especially not for $1000 or less ... it's worth more to me than that. YMMV

Now, if I played these games more often, I'm sure my skills would increase (but my opinion likely will stay unchanged). But I don't play them enough. Such a shame. :(

an aside - to OP or any other MC owners, if you ever have issues with the monitor - have no fear - please start a repair thread and ask for input instead of discarding the monitor chassis. with a brief learning curve and a few minutes, many out-of-adjustment monitor issues can be remedied

Opinions are like *
Everyone has one laughs..

What affects value?
Location location location..
If the game is closer the transportation cost is cheaper.
If you screw up your back that game isn't such a great bargain. Dam basement games on grassy hills

Is it a survivor or a restoration? All artwork isn't the same. Nor are they all accurate.

Low serial number?

Games history? Game from the developer is worth more. Game that hold the world world record adds value.

Your 1st series of arcade games is going to be expensive. It the newbie curse.

Support is important. Normal support is zero. You spend your money and get bad or zero support. I had a klov member sell an arcade machine and tried to pawn off that customer support on to me. I did not sell them anything.

enjoy the hobby..
Make friends.
Enjoy your free space and full wallet while you still got them..
Welcome to your new addiction.. I mean hobby.

The game detail page for MC shows that 46 have it on their want list with 17 for sale so it's an in demand game. I picked mine up for $500 around the start of COVID about the time WI was on lock down and I felt I got a deal (non working but simple fix). It's an all original survivor in very good condition. They don't come up that often around here and I had been looking for a good one for awhile. It's iconic and has a great cameo in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Can't see ever selling mine.

I remember the only chance I had to buy one, we were on our way back from an arcade function. We showed up at the gal's house and there were piles of computers, monitors, and printers laying in her front yard. It was also threatening to storm as we pulled up. Further back, there were three games sitting out in a shed on a dirt floor. Asteroids, Tempest and Missile Command. All of them looked rough, and we assume none of them worked. She was basically giving them away at $40 apiece. My buddy wanted the Asteroids, but I couldn't bring myself to make a decision on the Missile Command. My buddy handed her the money and started to load up his game. Minutes later we heard tornado sirens, looked outside and saw a funnel cloud about to touch down. Needless to say, my buddy grabbed the Asteroids, I passed on the Missile Command and I'm pretty sure we left the Tempest behind as well. We hopped in the truck and drove the fuck out of there, trying to beat the storm.

You dodged a bullet, MC sucks.

Though Asteroids is my favorite game, out of those three, for $40, I'd have taken the Tempest first, then the 'Roids, and the MC last.
Ha - what am I sayin'? Storm or not, should have taken all three. LOL

Tempest meets tempest!

Yeah, looking back now, I should've grabbed the tempest. But I think I had just gotten rid of one which was nothing but trouble the entire time I had it. Wasn't really thinking about the 6100 monitor that may or may not have been inside the cabinet. If the same scenario happened today and I was driving, I would've grabbed all three. Back then we were limited on space and time and had the storm coming in. We'd also been gone from home for four days.
