Hey guys, went to play my Missile Command and the cross hair won't track up. Freaking driving me crazy i have been playing MC everyday LOL. I am not a pro when it comes to Track Balls and how they work. I read that usually when this happens you just need to clean the lens? I see two of them and took some cleaner to them, i also used a can of air to blow any crap out, still not working.

Any ideas?

my 12 year old is having 22 of his Soccer pals over tomorrow for games and BBQ!!! LOL (like to get it working)

Thanks,

have you checked the idler roller.i got a cocktail and when i replaced all the old crappy parts that were not working i had probs with moving the cross hair, ended up the idler needed adjusting so the ball was contacting both the rollers so i had horizontal and vertical movement.

might be the ball is not making contact with the vertical roller,so make the adjustments if thats the case.other than that it might be the wiring or even the sensor itself.
:)

Not sure what the idle roller looks like but i am sure i can figure that out, i'll take apart the Trackball tonight and see, any pics? thx

Try swapping the two molex connectors at the trackball and see if the problem changes. That will give you an idea if it's the trackball or a problem on the board.

mc trakballs have 3 rollers,1 for horizontal 1 for vertical and one that does nothing, its called the idler, cos it idles around  its primary function is something for the ball to rest against or you would have a large area 1/3 of the ball that has no contact with anything so to help it spin better the idler is there to keep the ball, balanced and rolling, also it can be used to adjust the way the ball sits on the 2 other rollers,in cocktail it can,not sure about uprights though but, there should be an idler roller in there for sure.
:)

My spare board just started doing that. Plugged it in thinking I might as well sell it and no up movement. Swap the molex connectors as mentioned to rule out the trackball pcb. If it works side to side then its a game issue. I might have time to work on mine this weekend so will tell you what it was if yours is the same.

Yeah i tried the other suggestions with no luck. Let me know how you make out with yours. thx

Had similar problems, cleaned roms and redid all edge connectors. I also replaced the big blue but that was for the heck of it. Needless to say problem went away. Note I also had different behavior when only 1 of horizontal or vertical were connected, than when both were.

If ya cant fix it and its a PCB problem send it to BitSlicer. He kicks ass and is trustworthy.
