hi all..

I put a page together with my technical findings for the Missile Command prototype marquee situation... take a look and discuss on this thread if you have any ideas..

http://www.andysarcade.net/personal/tech/MC/index.htm

Some people have suggested a link to the Cockpit model, but from the several cockpit machines i've looked at, i don't see where the extras would go.

discuss!!

Pepro'ing the proto-cab probably wouldn't be that tough, a normal cab could provide 95% of the measurements and the marquee part can be figured out from the available photos, even the available side art can be used as they look the same.

I would email scott. If anyone has the proto data, he does. But it might not be in easily useable form. So possibly a ton of work to get running.

I noticed the prototype in the photo has a 3-slot coin door which is weird, I wonder why they did that? It also looks like it has normal buttons for firing from the bases as opposed to the cone-type it was released with.

Some Atari games around that time (1979-81) had optional 3-slot doors, just like most pinballs and silver-door Defenders. The center slot was for the SBA dollar, and ALL Atari games from the era are already pre-wired for a 3-slot door, though they aren't common in the US. I have an Asteroids with a 3-slot door.

Some export markets might have used them as well.

Just wondering if anyone has been able to track down a version of Missile Command that is early enough to drive that topper board. That would be one of the coolest rebirths for an arcade game, I think, equal to Missile Command II 2-player. Is it possible for someone to code it back in since much of the board schematic has been figured out/guessed? I'm thinking in terms of maybe the original prototype not being fully coded in the first place if the topper idea was abandoned early. Random lights would be cute but something that actually responded to the game in progress would be ideal.

This is the kind of stuff I love seeing here, there's some pretty brilliant collectors around and it's amazing some of the stuff they can create or figure out.

why thankyou :)

There is one potential owner of some code that has not been dumped yet in an early proto, however the pcb itself was also not populated in the right spot, so it doesn't immediately look like it will contain what we need, but there may be traces of it left in there, but maybe not.

Not entirely unrelated, so thought I'd share. This is the original side art intended for the cab with the large marquee. There are quite a few differences to what ended up on the finished cab:
