Does anyone know if there's another, better picture of the Missile Command giant marquee prototype? Best I've seen is the one below, someone posted in another thread

I'm not sure if any artwork is obscured in that bottom right corner near the speaker. Also not sure what the white "Abort Mission" square graphic looks like.

Thanks in advance..

The 'Abort Mission' graphic is a simple red square against a white background. There is no artwork that is obscured in the bottom right hand corner by the speaker. Hope that helps.

Have one?

So the article says only 5 were made. Does anyone here actually have one? Have the all disappeared?

I would like to see it on a cabinet

is there any pics of that proto cabinet? I think I posted pics of the proto MC cabinet I found 2 years ago. I passed it along to scott as he has the concept drawing art to it..

If you notice this cabinet has no speaker mounted in it. There was a speaker inside but it was not mounted properly. If you look at the side there are extended screws on top. The front of the cabinet with the control panel flips up and the boards slide out through a front access door.

That would make a really cool topper.. Print it on a film thats translucent
put it in a box with some LEDs mounted behind in and some random blinking..

I'd buy that.

R U sure?

Are you sure its a prototype? Missile Command upright and even the cabaret version used the older style large coin door. The over under one seemed more like a centipede era a little after correct?

its a proto 100% sure. scott has the concept drawings for it. Pretty sure he showed them to me, but he has so much cool paper stuff, its all a blur.. I just don't know about the overhead marquee thing.

I can probably make some calls and maybe find out how the MC got out of atari, but I think it was part of the big purge atari had about a 2 or 3 years before they closed (thats when/how I got the 4 proto airborne uprights, 2 proto airborne cockpits, proto klax, and proto? upright hard drivin).

Many protos left atari's door at that purge. Several local collectors bought up the games. There were also a bunch of weird sitdown proto t-meks and I think a metal maniacs. My proto tmek upright may have come from that deal, but I got it from someone else. I think Francis proto liberator came out of that purge too.

here is a pic of the pcb. don't know if you can see the dates on the roms, but they say 4/10/80 on them. Pretty sure missile command was released in july.

I have posted a pic of it before.. They only made 2 proto uprights. I have proto 1 and tj has proto 2.

we took both of them to CAX last year and tried to link them and ended up toasting our boards.. It was last minute scramble to get both working for the show(we did not risk linking them as we were short on boards). The short version, proto boards are not the the same link connection as production.

I also have this master your mek cabinet. I plan to put in a monitor and make it a link partner for my tmek. I don't know how many of these teaching cabs they made. But its just a light board connected to the controls. TJ also has one.

Have you tried dumping the ROMS to see if they match a production set check sums?

Here's the concept art for what became the Missile Command proto:

On the right there's a drawing of the earlier proto with the massive attract panel. On the left, beneath the drawing, it says: 'Missile Command With attract area removed'. So I'm guessing that the proto posted earlier was what they came up with after deciding to scrap the large attract panel. The clearly revised the design at least one more time to give us the Missile Command upright that eventually went into production.

no, I did not mess with the roms. Scott expressed interest in it, so I gave it to him as soon as I had a chance. Plus I did not have a working rom reader.. I am sure scott will dump it when he has a chance..

It would be neat to have the top section scanned, printed and turned into a MC topper..

Is that a piece of screen printed plexi with the graphics?

Could it be scanned? Or worst case coulld you get a hires picture without the flash,
well lit, and head on?
