Missile Command Power Questions

Count the beeps. It emits those beeps and boops in test mode to indicate working/not working RAM chips.

The pattern is such:

If you hear a high beep at-
1st - Bad Ram at P4
2nd - Bad Ram at N4
3rd - Bad Ram at M4
4th - Bad Ram at L4
5th - Bad Ram at K4
6th - Bad Ram at J4
7th - Bad Ram at H4
8th - Bad Ram at F4

It will do 8 beeps then try to boot into test mode. If it fails it'll just restart. You can also use these to find what art of the board is not working correctly.

It's very common for these to die even on boards without issues. I've replaced 6/8 of my RAM chips on my Missile Command upright and it was almost a yearly tradition. Works great when I put it away for the winter. Then I bring it back out for summer and it's broken again. You could always try to find someone local with a Missile Command to test the board. It honestly sounds like bad ram chips to me though.

Is it doing something similar to this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o93RUUwQf5M

Ah yes.. it looks like from the video it is exhibiting the same or very similar issues as my two boards are showing. I think you guys are spot on about that. Time to break out the testings tools. Thanks guys, will let you know what i find out.

The if you just did s bob Roberts at rebuild kit you can probably safely ignore the -5v reading the Circuit does not pull enough load but it should work fine assuming everything else is ok. (That is I would not worry about those readings) You can put more load on the -5 line to test for sure.

Even on MC boards that don't have tri-voltage ROMs, -5 & +12 are needed by the 4116 DRAMs...

All the correct voltages are present and reading steady on both boards separately tested. I even bumped up the +5 a little more and didnt make any difference. The last item i replaced was the big blue on the power platter and still nothing.. There must be a problem with both of my boards. I just havent had the time to start diaging them.

Mine isn't emitting any beeps on start-up, it just flashes this screen continuously:

Is the 4164 mod for Missile Command the same as it is for Williams games? What trace to cut, what jumper etc? All the search results I get are for williams boards

And this is the power platter that is in my full upright version of MC which is supose to be in the cabaret and cocktails models.

Did you ever get your machine working? I just acquired an MC that has the same Caberet platter in it and not the longer one

It really shouldn't matter which power supply it has, as they basically do the same thing.

As long as the wiring isn't hacked up, it should be fine. Start by inspecting all wiring, and testing all voltages.

Also, see this post for how to bring up an unknown-condition Atari game:

If any of the steps don't check out per the post, stop and post what you're seeing here.
