Missile Command Not Working - Blue Screen, 5.8v - where to start?

Just picked up a non-working Missile Command and am trying to get it going.

The best I can do is a blue screen with solid lit 1p+2p leds. The game will not go into test mode. One time I got it to boot with the counters going crazy and the 1p+2p lights flashing. I have reseated and cleaned all chips. I have swapped CPUs. I cleaned the edge connector and I am testing the +5 voltage on the board at 5.8V-5.9V. Obviously this is high. The AR will not adjust down using the pot on the AR-II.

So, I am guessing I should rebuild that power supply, right? I would think the board might boot with 5.8, am I wrong?

What else should I be looking for with this game? Replace all the sockets?

I was also thinking of getting the braze kit so I could remove the rom sockets out of the equation.

Any ideas? tips? This is my first MC and am not very familiar with it.

Thanks!

The game board may be damaged at 5.8V, so you need to fix that first.

Rebuild the AR board and check that the edge connector pads and the housing pins are not corroded or burned. That will cause the voltage to droop back to the AR sense points, which will make it raise the voltage too high.

After you get that straightened out, see if you can get into test mode.

I'd suspect that all of the RAM on the board are damaged, if it's really been turned on at 5.8V, but test mode will run and give you failure beep codes.

Ok, cool. I figured as much. I didn't leave the board on very long after I realized it was 5.8v. Hopefully I didn't do any damage.

5.8 is pretty high. That is not good. As mentioned, order the kit and a pot. I also think the kit comes without the LM305 and that could be bad. Should order that too if it's not in the kit.
