Missile Command cabaret - out with the rotten, in with the new

This is awesome! I am always amazed by the guys that can do this. I mean you could have just parted this game out and been done with it.

Wow, beautiful work! Very inspiring to see such a professionally done total rebuild. Am working on my MC restore right now and am at the point of replacing the black formica on the front of the cab. Should ba a fun trial and error process ;)

UPDATE:

This project has been sitting for quite a while. I just found that the woodgrain laminate is lifting around the edges and there are 1x2" areas away from the edge that are just lifting. This laminate must have been crap, as it was old, brittle, and kinda wavy. It looked good when it went on, but has failed. I used contact cement, did it by the book, etc..

Only thing I can think to do is strip it all off. I will have to come up with an adhesive woodgrain vinyl it looks like....Hope to wrap this up this spring. It's so aggravating and I wish I'd done some things differently, mostly not used plywood and just went with crappy particle board as it's original, but won't warp like ply.

More soon I hope.

Joey, hope you get back to this soon, your thread has been very helpful in my attempt to restore my Cabaret MC. Just as a side note, it looks like thisoldgame has made the Cabaret side art available on their website.

Sounds nuts, but I plan to rebuild most of the cabinet. I learned the hard way that plywood is a lousy substrate for laminate. My laminate bubbled and lifted. In addition, there was warpage in the side panels. Particle board or MDF would have worked better. Since it's impossible to use that original material with black vinyl on one side and wood grain on the other, I'll probably go with MDF with black vinyl on inside and wood grain laminate outside.

I need to build Centipede and BZ cabaret cabinets also.
