Just cleaned up the edge connector and re tinned it, pin "A" was burnt a bit but fixable. Plug it all in and turn it on, and the regulator and audio board start smoking, attached a picture for reference, Any thoughts or suggestions ?
I'm half way tempted to put a switching power supply in it, as missile command apparently doesn't actually need or use the +22 that is put into it and be done with the audio and regulator board all together, Use an amp out of an old set of computer speakers.

That I don't believe is a diode, it looks like the resistor that usually catches on fire on these. There's two 'sense' resistors, when they start burning up like that it's because you have a bad connection on the main game board... you repinned the burnt edge pin, but did you replace the pin inside the edge connector? If it's not making good contact it makes the sense line freak out and burn up that resistor (or the other one on the bottom of the arII).

To fix it you need a ton of those resistors (they're cheap) and to repin the connector. Search for 'sense resistor' on here and you'll see tons of info about it
