I have been told my MC board has the 2k rom mod. I have no idea what it is or what it does. Not that I am good enough to submit a score, but would that mod make my MC board not acceptable for submitting?? Any info on this mod or link to info would be great. Thanks

FYI, there was an "enhancement" released for Missile Command BITD called Super Missile Attack. It was a daughter card installed on the original board that made it much more difficult so you could no longer play until you fell over from exhaustion. Info here:

There was also a Missile Command II which never saw the light of day. A proto of this game was at CAX last year.

Finally, there is the Braze multi-kit, an enhancement pack which allows you to play both M.C. and SMA by hitting both start buttons to toggle between them. This also saves all high scores.

What you describe does not really sound like any of this and since I love Missile Command I am intrigued.

It just means it uses 2716s instead of 2708s, so only 1/2 the rom sockets are occupied.

yeah thats right, my board only has half the socketed roms. Does having this mod change gameplay or start up? Does having a MC with this mod mean you couldnt submit a score to TG?

If you plan to submit a record, you should ask T.G. as they seem to be picky yet not completely consistent at the same time. A Braze multi-kit would disqualify you...

It isn't a 'mod'. It's factory...

Unless they're complete fucking morons there shouldn't be any problem using that board for submissions...

Oh wait! For a second, I forgot we were talking about TG :) If you want your score to be accepted you need to take a sharpie and write "ROY SHILDT" on it in big letters.

Best laugh I've had in a while. Thanks Mark

It's a factory mod. :) Or it could've been modded aftermarket - I guess it would depend on which version is marked on the board. If there's a -02 or -04 I would assume it was done at the factory.

Also, if you get an answer from TG let us know! I've been trying to contact them regarding the decrypted version of SMA for quite a while now.

A set of decrypted SMA ROMs fitted to an MC board should be fine. I looked into this about a year ago and I'm sure there was something on the TG website that said as much. Can't find a link now though. The upshot is that there are so few working GC SMA boards out there that they've had to allow ROMs to keep the game alive.
