Mirco Challenge 4 Player Pong Repair Log

Aaaaaand now I've got one. lol
It came as a set, and both looked great for their age.

On the Mirco Challenge: I replaced caps on the monitor, and the amplifier pcb.
The game fires up. Player 2 is a bit jittery and will drift down the screen.
Player 4 shows up as a line that will adjust shorter or longer.

I need to figure out which chips control each paddle, and also find a few new potentiometers.

All fixed and ready to go!
For future readers...

* paddles have jittery control or keep moving after the potentiometer stops (paddle drift):
- replace LM339 and all six 0.1uF caps @ A10 (electrolytic substitution ok)

* Individual paddle drifts:
- replace potentiometer

* Player 4 paddle is too large, or grows/shrinks when potentiometer is moved:
- replace 9316 @ E10

* Reflow all headers for J1, J2, J3, and J4.

Hello,

Could you please tell me what Crystal frequency is on this board. I have the same board on my desk with an missing crystal oscillator. I tries an 14.31818Mhz but I can't get a stable sync. The board might be broken too. First I nned to know the exact value.

Thank you and great work you have done here.

This thread seems to be the place to go for assistance with these games.

The crystal is 13.102mghz

The machine I now have in for repair has the same problem that @TSB has above but its player 3? (inside player on the right side of the scores).

I'll post what I figure out.

third one now in my shop.

This one has the ball will not speed up, sound cuts out and you cant select the game (its got that Venture Line 6-in-1 kit on it).

Sound - bad connection at the monitor.

Ball not speeding up - the same jumpers are on this board that were brought up earlier. Removing them fixed that part, thankfully! lol

Game select - ended up being a bad 7404 in the middle of the daughter board and a bad 74161 near the two timer IC's.

Oh, the ball not speeding up seems to be factory from what I can see. So far, all three of these that I've had in my possession had the two jumpers.
