MiniPac with Dos / Spinners - anyone familiar with it?
I'm working with a new USB model MiniPac in dos right now, and trying to get things going with a Tempest spinner. Basically I'm running into a few different scenarios that I can't quite understand...is anyone familiar with a similar config?
1) I can boot to dos with a USB to PS2 adapter in place...and dmame doesn't detect the minipac buttons being depressed (nor the spinner). I'm not surprised by the spinner part, as I believe it's well documented that you have to be in 'usb mode' to get the spinner to work. This is a newer MiniPac that has no option for one or the other...it has a usb connector on board and no jumpers. Anyhow - if I unplug the PS2 connector from the PC and plug it back in (while in mame/dos), things start working.
2) I can boot to dos with the MiniPac hooked up via USB - no other usb devices in place - and my bios AND dos both detect a keyboard/mouse being in place...but neither works! Mouse driver detects a mouse being in place...but I start up dmame, it detects the spinner too...and if i unplug the usb connection to the MiniPac, it throws up an error that the 'mouse/spinner' is no longer detected and has been disabled. As a second test, while in mame, i plug in a usb keyboard/mouse, and immediately it detects these devices and lets me use them...even while Tempest is already launched.
If I try booting the machine without the MiniPac in place, it complains at startup that it doesn't detect a keyboard or mouse (a warning option that you can disable in the bios)...so I know the system understands these devices are around...
Any ideas are welcome...thought this would be a tad easier to handle here..heh.
