Mini XY asteroids

I'll sell you a whole working 5" XY monitor if you're really interested. You can PM me. Each one is a work of art in my opinion as it is built by hand and takes time to adjust it all out.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat. If you are willing to make a couple of them, I'll take one!

Okay, With all the interest I can make a few. I have had some PM's from people wanting one. PM me if you'd like one and I'll get a small list going. Maybe we can get enough interest with them that someone can get this working for them

I won't have the FPGA Asteroids done for at least a month though. I ordered the parts for more (around 10), but it takes time to get the stuff in and time to get some made. If your interested in one of those I can start a list too.

I ordered the parts to see if I could work on that Raspberry Pi board. I didn't get very far with trying make this work. It would have to be modified as the voltage range needs to be different on a real arcade XY monitor (compared to the one that they used). Figuring out what parts are necessary and what needed to be changed seemed a little beyond my pay grade. I could probably put it together/solder given the right instructions, and program the board, but the modifications are beyond me.

It would make an interesting Rasp Pi setup that could play multiple games on an arcade monitor. It would be MAME, but, until there are alternatives, it might be the only real doable multi-vector option.

Trammell on that page made a little digital to analog board that hooked to a USB port and looked to make the correct signals.

The Asteroids Deluxe FPGA board is all done. It will run in a regular real cabinet. Another fellow is working on getting Asteroids going on it too (It's actually all running expect some of the sounds are not implimented yet). He talked about battle zone and red barron too, but we will see. I have a few extra boards, but only put together one at this time. I'd sell some of them if there was interest.
If there was interest?...... Lol

Post on KLOV much? Pm sent[emoji4]

i most likely could not afford a fully done kit, but would love to see documentation on this..

Does that guy over at BRAZE still sell the kit to turn the board into
Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe / Lunar Lander ??

He hasn't responded to any of my emails.

I'd love more info on the HV board. I have a plan to turn a 9" classic Mac screen into a vector display, and would like to know how to design around the existing transformer.

Great work. Love seeing home brew kits like this in action.

As others have said, if you could make a FPGA board that could play multiple vector games and interface with existing hardware, there would be a market for that.

He never did. I've been waiting since it was announced 10 or more years ago.

Thanks - that's kinda what I figured.
What a shame - sounds like a great idea!

Wow, awesome!

I'm in for an fpga board with asteroids and deluxe
and i can't wait to see more details on the homebrew vector chassis, and i hope you someday make a color xy chassis compatible with vga tubes! (Or any other cool homebrew deflection stuff)

MULTIPLE people have tried to make something like this happen over the years. NOBODY has ever delivered. Based on this, I can ONLY ASSUME that any similar project is CURSED.

Put me on the list for a FPGA board.

An fpga with Asteroids and AD? Hell yeah, sign me up!

Can we get cocktail support too? :)

There seems to be some confusion as to what this FPGA and daughter board can do. It is not a multigame per se. It can run at this time, Asteroids (Without some sounds) and Asteroids Deluxe. The FPGA is either setup for Asteroids hardware or for Asteroids Deluxe hardware with VHDL code not both at the same time, then the rom for the game that the hardware is setup for is placed in an Eeprom on the daughter board and plugged in. The daughter board contains this Eeprom for code, A serial Eeprom for high score saves (not implimented at this time) a DAC, a +-15v dc dc converter for the correct XY signal voltages and associated circuitry for size and position control of the signals for the monitor. It also contains a 1.5W audio amp and volume control for an external speaker.

It's not software emulation, but as true a representation of the hardware as possible without making a large board with all TTL chips. Now the way this is setup makes it a nice platform for most of the B/W XY games. I don't see any reason why Asteroids, AD, LL, Battle Zone, Red Barron and more couldn't be run on it dedicated. I suppose possibly if someone wanted to write some VHDL code and got intimate with the hardware they could make this thing dance and make a multi out of it. I'd be happy to see that too. It could also run Vectrex hardware too I am sure and probably some color XY games, but it only has one output for Z so the game would be in black and white.

Hope this clears things up a tad.
