Anyone who's built a mini-MAME for their child speak up...

What size did you go with? I am thinking 1/2 size, but that may be too small and perhaps 2/3 may be the way to go?

How old was your child when you built it? This is one of those projects I can't wait to do... but my baby is only a week old for crying out loud... he has to learn to walk and talk before he can game...

EDIT: Whoops...I thought I was posting on BYOAC...

well, i built a galaga at 70% original size and it is very tiny. I would think that most kids would be comfortable on something that size. I built it for myself because I like things in miniature but it is very playable sitting on a small stool.

Thats cool... only 70% eh? Maybe I should look at 2/3 (slightly smaller) or 75%... 3/4 scale would be easier for sure as far as measurements are concerned.

well, my goal was to cut everything from a single sheet of mdf. i basically took the jakobud plans and multiplied all measurements by .70. some things I had to eyeball and it was damn near impossible to squeeze a 15" crt computer monitor in there but this was a low budget project. and it's cute. my girlfriend doesn't mind having it around, even.

I was spec-ing out everything to build a 70-75% size Donkey Kong Jr
I wanted a Junior DK Jr for my kids but I was going to use a 48:1 board since they are almost dime a doz. I was going to use a 15" VGA monitor I have that's in nice shape. Factored down form 19" I figured that 3/4 size was about right so that I could fudge some of the numbers and get it out of one full MDF sheet also.

That Galaga is sweet. The more I think about it I kinda want to build a 3/4 sized WB Mario instead since my kids are twins.

if you do build a mini nintendo cab, id love to see pics. I'm thinking about building one for a friend but I'm not very confident that I can pull it off.

Might be worth building a bartop, then you can make the base whatever size you want, or actually use it on a counter. Either way, mini Friz would be able to play it. :)

Hell he wouldn't even need to learn to walk before he could game if you put it down on the floor. Teething would be hell on a balltop though. :)

We can rebuild him, we have the cabinet plans! Better...faster...smaller.

Did you ever do this?

I made one out of an old Poker cabaret. It was the perfect size. I used an old 14" computer monitor in it, and its worked great for years! The kids and I play it all the time. Much better than making a machine too small for an adult to use. My son was 6 when I made it and now he's 12 and still plays it all the time!

This is basically a mini Ms.Pac style, but notice the bezel angle. When the true measurements are used, and scaled down, the angle on the mini-galaga just is brutal for tall or short kids to ever try and play. By slightly customizing your angle to more of a dynamo style, it ensures better viewing for more ages.

Total height is about 40".
