I think I want to build a mini cabinet because I think they look cool, but I would need a monitor.

Can anyone tell me what size monitors are usually in them? I have a merit bartop with a decent monitor that I could use, but it seems pretty small to me.

Depends on the mini... The pacs use 13" monitors where some of others use full 19" like Tempest. Also, the 13" monitors are still reasonable for brand new monitors if you needed to go that route.

Hmmm, I do have an extra 19 if I were to do a cap kit on it.

Worth working up a cad design.

Thanks!

Some old computer monitors can do arcade resolutions and fit nicely in a mini/cabaret (and the picture looks great). Here's one I did:

You can usually get them pretty cheap too if you can find them.

It is probably easier finding an arcade monitor than it is a PC monitor that does arcade resolutions. Trust me, I keep an eye out for those monitors as I need one for my Amiga. :)

Most used 13", 15" or 19" depending on the game and the manufacturer. Atari used 19"s on Centipede, Dig Dug and Tempest. Williams used 13"s on Robotron, Stargate, Make Trax and Bubbles. Midway also used 13"s on Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Tron, Rally-X, Galaga, etc. IIRC, the 15"s were used in B&W XY games.

I guess that makes sense on the B&W Vectors since they also used the 15" tubes in the cocktails...

I find them all the time at thrift stores.

I should check the goodwill down the street. Unfortunately, there are people here that go clean them out and dump stuff on ebay or sell it at the local computer swap meet. Maybe I will get lucky. :)
