Just put this together today, and wanted to share.

I had what I believe to be a Crystal Castles trakball, which I got randomly in a box of stuff. The reason I believed it to be CC is because it had a red translucent ball, and a backlight bulb socket, which looks to be factory installed. Maybe there are other games that used a backlit red ball, but the main one I can think of is CC.

Anyway, I cleaned it up, restored the bearings, and was going to post it for sale. But I stuck a flashlight through the back just for fun, and holy cow that ball lit up nice. The ball looks more orange in the reflected light, but glows a nice red when the light shines through it. I needed to see this thing in a cab...

The only cab I have with that size trakball is my Millipede. I've always hated the stock black ball, and have been wanting to put a green backlit trakball in it for some time, but the translucent green balls are always more than I want to spend. So for kicks I put the red one in it, and I have to say, it doesn't look half bad!

I especially like the way it brings out the other red highlights in the cab (cone buttons, coin door, and screen characters, as well as the red touches in the artwork.) Plus it looks a little bit sinister. It just tempts you to want to touch it...

Anyway, just thought I'd post about it, for fun. (Sorry for the crappy low-light pics.)

very nice! I put a blue lite up trackball in my GT fore complete. How did you light your trackball up?

There was already a wedge bulb socket on the back of the trakball housing. The bulb was dead, but I replaced it with a frosted 555 red LED bulb (which I do with all of my coin doors, so I keep a bunch of 555's and 44's on hand, in a bunch of colors).

I get mine from pinballbulbs.com, but you can get them elsewhere.

My Centipede has a GrooveGameGear translucent ball with Biltronix Green LED underneath. Looks nice too. :)
