I've used a Mike's Arcade nintendo jamma adapter with two different Mario Bros boards and the audio is really noisy. Is this normal, or is something wrong with mine?

Thanks!
Gary

I think thats pretty normal. If you listen close to DK or something thats ran through the factory monitor I think you will hear the same thing. I think the difference is that the input is cut by the pot on a Nintendo monitor and the gain is adjusted by the volume control on Mike's board.

I think....

The Nintendo Hum (tm) is from the crappy amp on the monitor, and noise injected into the amp by the monitor-derived voltage that powers it...

On a JAMMA adapter, it should be quiet (unless your board is the problem, of course)

Its not so much a hum but an everlasting sound effect that's really quiet. On DK it sounds like Mario's jumping sound repeating over and over again.

I've used that amp on Mr Do's! in the past and they were totally quiet.

If it's a repeating sound, then the problem's with the game board... the envelope circuit for one of the analog sounds isn't decaying completely.

Where were you tapping the voltage to use that amp on a Mr Do?

I left the Sanyo monitor as it was in the cab so it was getting voltage from that transformer on the chassis. I ran the audio sig from the board to the amp just like you would in a DK.

Just bought one, mine is quiet. Make sure the sound pot on the adapter is not adjusted too high, it will actually distort the sounds.
