Anyone here bought one? What buttons does it come with? I suspect they are microswitch by the description. Also, anyone know how the cheaper stick compares to the proper repro one? The repro is $55 more.

You bought a DK? Buy my Upright Stargate!

Orig Nintendo buttons are microswitch, albeit a different style mount, etc.. But still microswitch. If you are going for a full restore then just look for a used populated panel and get a new cpo if you want it to feel the same as the orig. You could e-mail mikes and ask for more info on the item, I am sure they would help.

I got the repro Nintendo joystick when I bought my control panel from Mikes. Works well. BUT the buttons are very loud. Way louder clicking than original Nintendo buttons.
I'll be changing them for sure when I install it.

I was Ok with the repo joystick as well but hated the buttons they just didn't feel right, so I took original switches and buttons off of an old original panel and put them on the Mikes DK panel. Worked out perfect for me....

I bought the Mike's and the repro buttons. Honestly, I really like the feel of the original nintendo buttons better. I switched mine out after finding some. Colors looked better and the feel was better on the original.

Sorry brutha, I'm a snob...it has to be a Defender!!

Defender is my fav game, no need to be sorry bro. Stargate is cool as well though, post a picture of your setup I was trying to show my wife earlier today but couldn't find any.

I think it is a total rip off that you have to pay full price and extra for a repro joystick.
You should get a discount for the amount of the pos stick that normally comes with the panel.

The difference with original nintendo buttons and all others are many and why nothing new or non-nintendo NOS quite matches.

- The size of the button was a bit smaller -- 1 1/16" opening vs. 1 1/8" and thus rest of button a bit smaller as a result

- The button height above the bezel was a bit taller and had sharper edges (greater concave decline) than most others

- The spring was a different pressure

- Colors different, but some of that due to aging too... Blue nintendos REALLY like to fade to greenish blue.

- The plastic was sigificantly 'harder' than the softer wico ones.

- They all are leaf switch buttons BUT they had a special mount to connect a lever activated microswitch.

- Start buttons pressed directly against the lever giving one feeling

- Jump/Fire buttons pressed against a roller on the lever giving a different feeling.

That's why it's so hard to get the same look AND feel out of any other leaf switch/leaf button assembly or any horizontal or vertical loaded microswitch button and why NOS leftover Nintendo buttons command such a price for those that want it "authentic".

I still watch the vid of your arcade sometimes and dream of what I'll do when I win the lottery!

Well for what it's worth my wife and I really think you have a great space there, nice setup. Once you add a Defender and the wife says you need a Tempest (to be honest she likes the can style and art) you will be done? Some times less is more, nice setup buddy, looks great!

I think 5 will be the max I can fit down there. There's always the garage, but it's not really the same. Joust, Robotron and Dig Dug are all on my list though...
