Subject says it all...

Is it possible? I've heard that you can't do it on the Midway version, but I just figured I'd check first. The original PS is popping fuses and smoke'ng resistors... so I'd just like to slap a switcher in there for now and call it "done" until I get around to rebuilding my power supplies.

I've done it. Since the original PS puts out some weird voltage that the switcher doesn't, I kept that part of the original PS connected, and used the switcher to run the +5 and ground.

And if you do it and get a "Tilt" error, it's because the +5 isn't set properly. I think I had to get it at about +5.2 to make it run properly...

Great, that means I'm gong to have rebuild this power supply sooner than I thought. Uggg... As it is now, the fuse pops and one of the diodes or resistors (didn't get a good look before I ran out of fuses) smokes. So... yeah. KK, thanks.

I installed this kit into a Space Invaders Deluxe Cab, I had once.

Yeah, I keep coming across that, that seems like my best bet.

I was curious about that multi-game kit they had on there for $25, is that both games on a board or something, or do you have to have both boards THEN install the kit to switch between them?

the Elecktron Forge kit is great... a bit pricey for what it is... but nonetheless efficient and quick.

I decided to remove the original PS... I wish I had kept it as the my switcher isn't putting out enough juice to power the marquee. lights.

I am a newbie at this and it only took me an hour... probably take you ten minutes. If I could soder it would have taken way less time.

Over 500 posts and you haven't learned to solder yet? You should be a monitor rebuilding king by now!

I used to buy just working games and have had great luck... I have just begun to start buying broken machines. I also need to stop buying 5 dollar sodering irons and break down and buy a nice one.

Radio Shack does have a decent soldering iron kit in their stores. It's a little soldering station and a 20/40W switchable iron. Granted, at the arcade I'm lucky enough to be able to use a SWEEEEEET Weller station, but everything I do at home is with that 20/40W Ratshack Special. The other irons they have (the 15W irons) don't even heat up enough to melt solder IME. I've actually had the solder set to the end of the iron, while it was on, in the middle of a cap kit. It's a painful, painful way to solder...
