Last night I finished up my Midway Space Invaders II cocktail. I had bought it 15 years ago, just finally got around to doing something with it. The original was all gouged up from break in attempts and every piece of metal was rusting away.

I dumped all the metal in a salt & vinegar bath for a few days, neutralized & sprayed with Rustoleum. I used no-blush epoxy thickened with wood flour for most of the wood repairs on the cabinet, for the last few spots I noticed that I missed, I used Elmer's Wood Filler, because I was feeling lazy and didn't want to mix up the epoxy - that stuff worked great as well, quite hard and easy to sand.

The original laminate was some kind of vaguely wood-colored tan with no pattern. I hated the look, so didn't bother trying to match it - instead I used 3M Di-Noc in a wood grain pattern. That looks much better.

Bought a new colored overlay from a KLOV'er, cut out a black cardboard monitor bezel for it, and cut down a piece of smoked plexi to size. Put on a repro Space Invaders Deluxe underlay (the only Space Invaders cocktail underlay I could fine), so there.

I accidentally nuked my Space Invaders II boardset wiggling an edge connector, it didn't have a key and slid over, putting 12 volts onto the +5 rail I think. That'll take some fixing... So a regular Space Invaders boardset in there for now. The monitor doesn't have the yoke flip relays so it only faces one way. Whoops. I'll add the relays if I can't get the original board up and running again.
