Working on this SI Deluxe that has no gameplay. Have not worked on one before. Board and power supply tested good in another machine. I checked the voltages on the transformer(pretty sure in a correct manner) the outputs are putting out very low amounts compared to what is printed on there. Do I have any options besides installing a working exact replacement transformer?
 
That's odd- what's the wall voltage?

A transformer is pretty simple- the outputs are typically just a ratio of the input voltage.

You could have a poor connection in the plug or cord leading up to the transformer block.

I think I boxed up a transformer assembly from a Space Invaders Deluxe a LONG time ago. It would take some digging to get to.

Please, need more help...

Maybe I tested the voltage outputs incorrectly? Had the black lead on a grounded screw on the block and red lead on each output tab. There are numbers listed under each one, I assumed that was the voltage I should get I can't remember if I tested the AC before the transformer or not. I should check it from the wall, where it enters the cab, before and after the AC filter right? And if all that is good but the output from the transformer is low or at zero where there should be voltage, then what are the options besides a working replacement from another cabinet? Can I do a switching power supply, is there an adaptor kit available?
 
You're measuring it wrong. You don't measure the AC output of a transformer across ground. You have to measure it across it''s two poles.

In the case of a Space Invaders.....assuming your transformer is the same as mine....The top lugs are the outputs. If your label is still intact, it'll read......16.5, 9, 0, 9, 16.5, 0, and 12.
If you set the meter to AC volts and read across the two 16.5 lugs....you should see 33 volts.....arcoss the two 9 lugs, 18 volts. The 0 between the two 9s is the center tap for these windings. This means if you read from 0 to either of the 9s, you should see 9 volts AC. read 0 to either of the 16.5, you should see 16.5 volts. Now the last two lugs...0 and 12 are another winding. If you read across these lugs, you should get 12 volts. One note, these are unregulated volts....and generally run higher than their stated values. That's fine and normal.

Wow, I can't believe how bad my memory is, I really should have remembered that! Thanks for the help, I'll check the transformer again.
 
For what its worth I ran into fuses on these that look good but ended up being bad. One fuse does the 110v for the game and the other 3 amp fuse is the 12v feed to the daughterboard for sound.
