I'm hoping more experienced people on the forums can help me.

When i turn the machine on this is what happens:

1. I get the "bong" sound
2. black screen ( guessing it is doing the rom check )
3. Displays CMOS OK screen
4. black screen

If you wait long enough eventually you will hear the demo being played.
I can press start and keep pressing the shoot button to select teams and players and get into the game. I can tell this is happening by listening to the audio and eventually hear the play-by-play.

Every once in a while one of 2 things will display.
thin line of across the screen made up of multiple colored pixels or a bunch of purple blocks.

Booting up with the test dip switch on shows the CMOS OK screen and reboots. It does not get to the settings menu.

I know this is a problem with the board because i have placed other pcbs in the cabinet and they work fine.

Here is what I've done:

1. I've cleaned the board
2. removed and tested the roms. They are all valid.
3. Checked the board to make sure all the resistors and caps are secured

The only things I can think is the ram is bad or one of the chips. It's pretty hard to find any detailed information on the board. The only thing I came across was the diagram from mame.

http://mamedev.org/source/src/mame/drivers/midwunit.c.html

This explains the chips on the board but not their usage.

There are 2 red leds

I'm hoping someone out there with MK3/hangtime/etc may have had a similar problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Forgot to mention. There are 3 LEDs on the the board. 2 of them are right next to each other. in the attached picture the one to the right is constantly flickering.

I have a UMK3 with a graphics glitch. Not near as bad as you describe. I have also verified all good roms and pulled and reseated them. I would check the board really good for a cut trace or solder connections touching/shorted. That is where I'd check next.

Just a few days ago I did a scan of the manual, drop me a PM with your email address if you want it.
