Midway Coin Door Logo Plate "Rivet" Thread

There is little discussion, but no actual answers that I've found regarding the "rivets" in a Midway coin door logo plate.

The closest thing I've found is something called a "snap". I found it in a scrapbooking store. The head size is perfect, the diameter of the body is perfect...but they aren't long enough to go thru both the logo plate and the coin door.

I know it's a tiny detail, but in this hobby sometimes it's the tiny details that stick out.

Has anyone found any true replacements for these, and if so, where?

There are tons of online hardware stores that can get the correct rivits. When I say hardware store I mean thats all they sell. You need a solid head, hollow body rivit.

This is great info, thanks to you both.

What is the exact size of Midway rivets? They are brass, correct?

Do they tamp down with a standard rivet gun?

I think they are steel or aluminum but cant remember for sure.
They are not "pop" rivits if thats what your asking. They would have used a hydraulic tool with dies to compress them in place.
I just use regular pop rivits on mine, looks good enough for me.

I had a guy a year back buy one of my old Midway doors just for the clean rivets I had on it. Don't how how he took the old rivets off though. He was a KLOV member.

what kind of POP RIVETS are you using? could you point us to an online source?

You can get them at most hardware stores, they are really small ones. I couldnt tell you the size off the top of my head. I will see if I can find a source for them in the next couple days.

I cut the end's off and saved the tops. I glued them into the new coin door plate. Doesn't look 100% original since they're not "pulling" the plate inside anymore, but looks better than anything else I could think off. They are definitely brass or at least brass colored.

The old 70's era ones are brass....the ones on the gray or brown doors. Once the 80's hit....they went to black doors with chrome rivets.

when i do my tron ill be grinding off the back of the rivets ,then removing the plate. I will epoxy on the new plate and glue on the old rivet heads....

Since Rich from thisoldgame made the new plates with holes for rivits..I'm sure with some searching there is a source to get new ones that could serve as replacements..seems like a lot of extra work to save the old ones...although I've repainted doors and left the existing plate with rivits in tact when its in very nice shape...no sense making extra work if its not needed.

just watched some youtube videos about pop rivets - hadn't seen those "cuties" before ;)

two questions:

- do all pop rivets end with this "hole in their head" once they have been popped in?

- do brass pop rivets also exist?

Yes, pop rivits have holes in the middle. They work by pulling a stud through the center that is enlarged on the end which expands the metal pulling it tight.
Traditional rivits are solid.
You can get rivits in many different materials. I have some copper ones here. Most common are aluminum and steel and you can also get them with painted heads or anodized colors.

what's the diameter of the original midway rivets' head, i don't have an intact metal plate over here? i found brass / copper pop rivets online, but don't know which size to order?

if possible i'd prefer measures in millimeters ... :)

Head dia .190"
Head thickness .032"
Shaft diameter .085"

I spent some time last night looking for them and couldnt find anything that small.
