Why did some come with them and some not? And why when there are no coin lights is the coin counter mounted right behind the left 25c plexi rather than in the center? If I wanted to add lights to my Midway coindoor, does the harness side molex have an extra pin (that the coin door side does not) for the 5V or 12V? Also, does anyone sell repro metal Midway plates or are AS's cheesy stick-on badges all that's out there? If so, I think I will re-rivet the original plate back on. There's something to be said for original parts, warts and all. I hate doing coin doors.

I don't know if there's an extra pin, but it would be pretty easy to just run a new wire from your PS up to the coin door.

Upright game Midway coin doors originally did not have lights. It wasn't until Ms. Pacman (approximately) that Midway decided to have lights on the coin doors. They were run off of the 12 volts from the gameboard power transformer.

The cocktail cabinets did have coin door lights since they were already running 12 volt lights for illuminating the control panels. Plus they figured cocktail cabinets would be in dark locations anyway and a lighted coin door would make it easier to find the slot in the dark.

This is on a GORF machine, which would mean it wouldn't have come with coin door lights as it predates Ms. Pac, yeah? So I can run a wire from the 12V out on my transformer and then just run the wire to an open spot on the coin molex? Cool. Thanks Ken.

The Gorf schematic shows that you have transformer # MT87 in there.

The 12 pin AC input from the transformer on the power supply board is one place you can pick up the fused 12 volts AC to run the coin door lights. Pin 8 (white-green color) and pin 12 (yellow-blue or yellow-black) of that connector can be followed down to the transformer and fuse holder if you want to pick up power there.

If you install bayonet lamp sockets, use #1895 bulbs. If you use wedge base sockets, use either #194 or #161 lamps.

If I recall, Midway used two power wires to the coin door lamps at the coin door connector. One from the fused output of the transformer and one from the unfused output.

Yeah, my Pac didn't have them either...but it looked so weird with all the others lit up, that I broke down and did it just the other day. Not original, but I multi'ed it anyway, so whatever. I think it looks better.

Wow, missed this thread, I was following Phet's WTB thread by accident.
I'll repost what I said over there. :D

Lights are easy to add.
Buy this style holder (x2)

If a coin counter is mounted over the window (see pic #1 of a PacMan door), move the counter to the center location (see pic #2).
Unbolt the bottom nut on each 25c window and mount the sockets on those.
Run the wires, you should have empty sockets on the connector, just crimp new pins on the wires and go. On my PacMan which doesn't yet have lights, there is no power to the coin door connector.

The last picture is the connector, the orange and grey wires are to the lights.

Bob Roberts also sells the lamp holders 2/$3
#7 & #10 will work, depending on your lamp style preference.

As far as wires, it depends on your preference. I have 6 doors sitting in my garage, most use various grey/orange/yellow with stripes, not anything readily available today anyway.
If it were me, run either yellow for 12v, red for 5v, and black or green for ground. I've gotten the pins from Bob Roberts if you want to go through the original connector.
Just buy a connector if you only want a few pins.

.093 Plug & receptacle 6 position w pins & sockets $2.00 <=buy this if you only need a few, you get 6 pins & sockets with it.
.093 pins only bag of 100 $6.00
.093 sockets only bag of 100 $6.00
HT-1921 Crimping Tool $16.00

The crimper does the pins like the factory crimp, makes connectors a breeze.
I used to solder every pin, took forever compared to the speed of this tool.

Crimping explained by Bob.

And finally, if your doing much with these connectors, I'd recommend the following extraction tool too.

Um.....Midway used AMP brand connectors for the coin door and control connectors. They did not use Molex for those applications.
