Are the official Midway cocktail control panels flat or slanted. I was pretty sure they are slanted to match the wood pieces next to them, but the replacements I just ordered are flat.

wtf? did I just get crappy control panels? the back will be too low and the white plexi won't even reach the top of the cabinet and leave a gap. I've since looked around at every place I can find that sells reproductions (arcadeshop even) and they all look flat.

I believe the earlier Midway cocktails like Galaxian and Space Invaders use the slanted style, and later cocktails like Pac-Man, Ms.Pac-man, Galaga, and Rally X use the flat style.

Kyle

Rally-X & Pac-Man: The control panel is: 11" wide, 5" deep, 4" tall.

Galaxian & Ms. Pac-man: The control panel is: 11-1/4" wide, 5" deep(CP slants up), 1-1/2" tall(at the front).

You got that wrong. Ms. Pac and Galaga have 9" panels.

Anyway, if your CP's were slanted before, then you have a Galaxian cab, and you ordered the wrong CP's. Arcadeshop does sell a Galaxian-style slanted panel for a joystick, but you'll have to route out some space in the wood underneath for it to fit...

I never could understand why there was never any consensus reached on the dimensions of the Midway cocktail cabinets and control panels.

The picture on the left is of the two spare Galaxian control panels I have that would fit on the cocktail cabinet I plan to restore to... I'm actually not sure what I'm going to restore it to, but it is an "Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh" at the moment, as shown by the picture on the right.

After a lot of past researching and submission of dimensions the conclusion was that the cocktail cabinet was originally a Galaxian. Now since those Galaxian control panels fit on this cocktail I have to ask if Midway was consistent when these cabinets were manufactured.

its all out there if you search around;

i for sure have a:
galaxian: slanted, short, wide

and from memory:
pac-man: wide but flat and tall
mspac and galaga: narrow, flat, and tall

key: short is like 1.5" at the front, tall is like 4-5"
wide is 11" and narrow is 9 i think

edit: pac and galaxian had the single coin door and ms pac and galaga had the double

Well I'm working with a gorf cocktail right now and they are slanted, but not slanted like galaxian. Essentially the flat reproductions people are selling fit in, but due to the little blocks glued on the inside of the control panel mounts, they sit slanted. Although you can install them ok, they don't actually line up exactly with the originals if you sit them side by side.

The point is that there is a lot of contradictory information out there.

I have spare control panels for Rally-X/Pac-man also, and the following is the info I have been able to gather, even though it is still incomplete.

1) Rally-X and Pac-man have different cabinets, but the same control panels.

2) Pac-man and Galaxian have the same cabinet, but different control panels.

3) Galaga and Ms.Pac-man have the same cabinet and control panels.

My Rally-X Cabinet Dimensions rounded to the nearest quarter inch
****************************************************
A) The control panel is: 11" wide, 5" deep, 4" tall.
B) There are two grills under each control panel.
C) The cabinet's horizontal length is: 21-1/2".
D) The cabinet's horizontal width is 20-1/2".
E) The cabinet height (minus leg levelers and top) is 27-3/4".

My "Arkanoid-Revenge of Doh"(Originally Galaxian) cabinet Dimensions
******************************************************
A) The control panel is: 11-1/4" wide, 5" deep(CP slants up), 1-1/2" tall(at the front).
B) There is a grill under the left control panel, and two(situated diagonally) under the right.
C) The cabinet's horizontal length is: 21".
D) The cabinet's horizontal width is 19-1/2".
E) The cabinet height (minus leg levelers and top) is 26".
