for some reason the letter Y is displayed as Q in the rom but that shouldn't matter.

I looked inside the binaries in a hex editor and saw all the game text in Eprom D2.
I'm working on a Clowns pcb myself now, and that's how I found this thread.

The text is stored in a block...
The code that uses that data to draw on the screen is elsewhere.

for some reason the letter Y is displayed as Q in the rom but that shouldn't matter.

Y is stored in the Q position because the "font" only goes through W and Q and Z are't used.

Thanks for checking into that I appreciate the heads up but IIRC the person that repaired it for me swapped the EPPROMs back to 2708's but I would need to check to confirm.....

You're welcome. Although as Hudsonarcade has mentioned, having the text in that particular rom does not mean that the instructions to print that text on screen would have to be in the same rom.
