Hi guys,
I might have a line on a Captain Kid rifle game. Unfortunately I only have one crappy pic of it and only know it doesn't work and might be missing a few parts. Can't get more info since the owner is clueless about it and it's a 2 hour drive. The price is right, and I'm confident I can fix it if it's all there, but missing parts on these scare me a bit.

Anyone have a clue about how hard it is to find parts for these? I'm assuming the more common parts can probably be found, but what about any of the more game-specific stuff? Anyone reproing stuff, or would I be at the mercy of finding a parted-out machine. I guess on that hand, it might be worth it just to part out in case I find another one down the road depending on how much is missing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
That a very cool rifle game. If it's the right price and not too far away I would go for it. If you get the feeling it's been stripped or is missing parts, ask for some interior photos and let some folks here take a look. Yes, some parts can be hard to find but they are out there. I've learned that patience usually pays off - parts always surface.
Having said that, I passed on a couple of rifle ems last year because they were missing the rifles and other firing mechs, and I wasn't ready to sit on them and wait for parts because I had a bunch of others to work on.
Best of luck. Let us know what you decide. I would love to have a CK!

Thanks for the reply Cullen! It's unfortunately one of those sitations where it's in a Grandma's house and her grandson in a different city is advertising it for her, so the one crappy pic I got is all I'm going to get. From that pic I can see that the gun is there (which I know can be a big headache to find), so that's good. The front glass also is there and appears to be whole and in good shape. Cab is bumped, bruised, and faded...but to me that's character in a game this age. :) Can't tell anything about the internals unfortunately.

I've been wanting a rifle game for quite a while, and from what I've seen online this one would fit the bill perfectly if I can get it running. Short of Haunted House, this is one of the coolest ones I've seen. I'm tempted to just go for it and see what happens... :)

Sounds like you really want it, and it's priced right, so I hope you go for it.
Hopefully since it's in a residential basement and not stored in an old operator's warehouse, it's complete and not stripped of any parts. Worst case scenario you get there and it's worse than you want to deal with so you walk away - out some gas money.
I had been seeking out a rifle game for a while and found one a state away a couple months ago. It was rougher than I had hoped (some rust, blacklight artwork bad/torn, & some other stuff) so I recently let it go. Would love another one...in nicer shape!
Be sure to upload some pics if you get it.

Congrats on the find. I too just picked up a Capt. Kid for a great price. Mine is complete for the most part except I need a stylus, and one of the relays in the head is half gone, and my gun recoil blows a fuse.

If you get it and decide it's a parts machine I could use a couple of things from it. :)

MIne was missing a couple of parts too, but I found them at http:www.flippers.com, and pinball salvage http://www.pinballsalvage.com/

Thanks for the input guys. I think will be letting this one go. I got a little more info that makes it sound pretty bad...mold, missing parts, a real basket case I guess. The listing is also gone for it, so I'm assuming someone picked it up, or it went to the dump. If it wasn't for the long drive, I would have checked it out for a parts machine if nothing else, but oh well. :(

I understand the distance...I've done a bit of driving myself to procure the EM's for my arcade.

Regarding the mold don't let that scare you away. This is a common problem in games from this era. That can be surpressed with zinzer primer. It's all what you want time you want to invest. The more important factor is it complete mechanically?

Funny thing just when you think you passed on a good opportunity another comes along.

Good luck in your quest...jediturtle
