A co-worker brought me his Midway table top arcade machine.

It has 2 joysticks, 6 buttons and 12 games including Defender, Bubbles, Splat, Tapper and Rampage. He asked me if he could convert it to be able to run a 60-in-1 jamma board (which you clearly cannot!)

Still, I've not seen this unit - he said it was a gift. The machine has side art that displays the game names in their marquee style, but the game graphics aren't quite as good as they would be on their original boards.

What is the story with this machine? What is it worth second hand?

Yeah that is exactly what I was thinking of. They made a countertop version that I can't seem to find right now but it essentially looks like that but cut in half and then shrunk to fit on a bartop.

It's generally disliked by the collector community. I might spend $50-$75 on one if I had some money to burn.

Yeah, I was thinking of taking it for $50 if he'd let it go for that.

I have a real Defender cabinet, and I'm glad I do! This just wouldn't do!

What is the machine playing? The graphics and controls look very similar to the first playstation Arcade's Greatest Hit's disc that had the 6 Williams games on it.

Does anyone know?

Not exactly sure of everything but after doing what I could to the store display model that used to be in my area I know it runs off of a regular CRT tv, with composite video and mono audio. IIRC, it was some small (PSOne-sized without the CD-drive opener) self-contained unit. It could very well have been some type of derivative of the PSOne version... Who knows?

That is what I am thinking - If he'll accept $50 for it, it's sold. I still use my PSOne to play Jouse and Robotron since I never did track down a Williams Multi-cade (and since the horizontal jamma's were discontinued!)

Not that it matters, but on this Midway machine you use a button to "throw" the pies in Splat!! I always thought that Splat machines were the same as Robotron, where one joystick moved and the other joystick was used for directional throwing. In fact, didn't 2 player Splat control panel have 4 joysticks?

I bought one for $80 and seriously overpaid.
I took it apart eventually and just saved the boards so I can build something small with it using a variant of the Multiwilliams CPO.

I was thinking just building a PlugN2TV type control panel as it's still fun for a non collector. The programming was done by Clay Cowgill but they all seem more ports than running in emulation.

Heres something funny for you....No kidding either!!!!I was at a game auction in Winston Salem when these came out and watched some idiots pay 300-500 for them...atleast 5 were sold. Couldn't believe my eyes. ( I agree 50 to 75 is plenty just because its better than nothing)

I played one in a store once and nearly threw up from disgust all over the cheap cardboard cabinet it was in. The whole thing screams BUDGET through and through. How they got away selling these retail for $300-$400 I'll never know. Terrible controls. Terrible TV/monitor. Don't pay a lot of money for this. You'll regret it if you do.
