Midnight Resistance build (DATA EAST curved cabinet)

I am going to say something and please don't take it like I think you will have problems or that I don't think you did an AWESOME job! It looks perfect!

Next time you should remove the vinyl first, you are relying on the 30 year old glue to hold the vinyl on and the laminate. Hopefully you don't end up with the vinyl pulling off the cabinet and taking the vinyl with it, or the rubber cement reacting with the vinyl glue. It's really simple to pull that vinyl and if it is anything like my Data East cabinet it will pull off by hand.

Thanks and no offense, you are right. But, I did try to pull it off and that vinyl was really stuck on the cabinet. That's when I made the executive decision to leave it. I finished this months ago and it is still holding up great.

I am sure you will be fine, I have found that liberally applying acetone (which is nontoxic) to the vinyl usually makes it come right off. I did have one Galaxian that was really tough and I had to put citristrip on it for a few hours before it would peel.

Some people have had luck with just a heat gun. That is how I got the side art off a Simpsons. Then I cleaned the remain adhesive off easily with acetone and a plastic scraper.

Just some advice for next time.

Great restoration!

Can you share some tips?

How big is the monitor? 20", 21" or 29"?

What's the size you consider perfect for Midnight Resistance?
Thanks, the monitor is a K7000 19", I think this is great for this cabinet.

Very nice Resto. I'm doing something similar with my Data East Ring King. Lamination too.

Question, did you swap the light fixture or just replace the bulbs? Mine has the same fixture. At the minimum I was going to swap out the incandescent bulbs with LED equivalents, to cut down on heat. But I'm thinking I may swap it out altogether. Thoughts?

Thanks, I just replaced the bulbs with LEDs in order to reduce the heat in that area. The existing fixture and placement provides plenty of light so I didn't need to replace it and kept it original.

looks awesome, great attention to detail for sure. i remember playing the shitttt out of this game. only thing i would comment on, make sure the color temp of the bulbs is the same as OG. not sure if they were cool white at that time were they? dont know. also, the dust washers :(.

I never thought about the bulb color temperature, those bulbs are long gone and where regular incandescent but I would image a warm or soft white would be good.

Dust washers... take them off or place underneath eh CP? Never thought of doing that.

it's counterintuitive, cool white actually represents the art better, white light makes white art white etc. where warm would make white a more creamy yellow, however its more period correct...but again, not sure what they used for that era of games.

you're gonna wear that nice cpo with scratches, yup under for dust washers if they fit ok. i've seen pics with both, but generally they go underneath.

Hello friends!

The Restoration is very good... I'm thinking of starting one like this one, but for the Robocop game, which was the same cabinet, but like Brazil, don't you think I have to always make replicas of the originals?

Thank you very much in advance

I don't think there are any detailed plans for any of the Data East cabinets of this era but there is a sketchup you can probably get some decent dimensions from
