Midnight Marauders Restoration - was going to keep the cabinet original until...

Just barely finished my Midnight Marauders restoration. The cabinet does have some scrapes and a bit of water damage but overall pretty good. I powder coated all the metal but the rest is original. I was getting ready to take pix but noticed some of the artwork was peeling off the top corner. I gave it a little pull to see how extensive the area was that had crappy glue. And it just kept going...

The good news is it all came off in one piece, the bad news is i have to remake ALL of the artwork now and will be building a brand new cabinet because of the water damage i discovered.

So, the break down begins. Its cool to see how all the artwork on the inside is black light friendly. It really glows inside the game.

Lots of moving (EM style) pinball parts in here.

This isn't my pic, but can anyone tell me what that decal is (says) on the side of the gun sight? Mine is missing the decal.

(Shaking head) Not this sh#t again... It has a story. The story about how Bally used cheap ass glue and the decals came off. Besides the cabinet is water logged underneath and the decals have ripped edges, holes, stains, etc. The artwork is very busy and hard to see from iphone pix but the damage is there.

why didn't you simply glue it back on? the cabinet seems to be in really good condition, it would be a shame if it got replaced by "new wood without any soul and story to tell" ...

didn't want to start this thing again - sorry! it's just that you wrote yourself that the cab was in a good enough condition to be saved and everything that comes off can be glued back on again. and judging from the pics (which are pretty good for an iphone btw ;)) it looks as if this would be doable! however, in the end you have the machine right in front of you and you see stuff which we don't and in the end it's your decision after all!

btw, i'm curious: do you have a guy who builds all those machines for you and puts them together as well or are you doing that yourself?

the decal says exactly what it is GUNSIGHT

I like how it has the 3 tier. Im restoring a 1971 Williams Sniper right now that has teirs like that. Definitly would like to take that apart and see what makes it tick :)

Believe me, they used crappy glue on these. I have an empty cabinet to one and all the art is trying to peel off of it.

Cool thanks! Ill try to make a new decal for it but ill need some more reference/photos.

It's pretty cool inside, stuff like a bicycle chain for the space ship.

Well not suppose to be.

When I first started working on these I had an idea to make reuseable side art clings so you could change the whole look of a machine like a kit but decided to make each game have its own identity.

wait.. i was just thinking.. an EM with peelable side art?? wtf?

Yeah I was so surprised how easy it pulled off. I still had to be careful which angle I pulled and had to go VERY slow. The front will not peel off though, I'll have to scan that right on the cabinet. The silver lining in all this is that full side art will be available for anyone who wants to restore their game.

yeah alot of EMs are chain driven... shows how much more creativitly goes into EMS rather then video machines..

what i meant was, its not STENCIL? Most EMs are stencil on sides.. shows how NEW this game is for an EM..

Awesome, that side you peeled off was the side I need on mine. Mine has a huge tear on that side right where it flattens out for the front shelf part. Now if I could just get the game PCB to do something like boot I'm in business.

looks like the sight was stolen off my gun so doesn't look like I can help with that.

Here's what they did with my side art count yourself among the lucky ones with how much you had left.

When I first looked at the gunsight, I could swear it said "marauder" written just like that. But I don't have one so I can't say. That is one awesome looking game.

Side art scanned and in line to be restored:

Front scans (need to stitch up):

Looks like these games were designed to have ticket dispensers in them. Look at the top left corner of the front. This is covered by a black metal plate. My game didn't have a dispenser inside but i think i'm going to install one.

Awesome. Classic Playfield Reproductions could really put you to work vectorizing playfields and backglasses.. j/k

Keep em coming!

Nice work so far. I had a chance to pick one of these up several years ago and passed, so I'm wondering if the gameplay is any good. Nevertheless, the artwork is great.
