Is anyone else as pumped about this as me? After four "Prime" games, the FPS style was getting stale, imo, and good luck getting a new "Classic" Metroid sidescroller at the moment other than maybe on DS (though a 2.5D scroller on Wii might be interesting...).

Anyway, it's going to be different, to say the least, but I'm really looking forward to playing this new style of Metroid game.

Also, Amazon is giving a $20 credit if you preorder (release date is this Tuesday).

A Metroid history:

Im a huge fan of the series, but never got into the FPS games and missed the boat from there. Ive always enjoyed the side scrollers. Ill wait awhile and see what kind of reviews it gets before I bite on this one.

So far the reviews say that the lack of different control schemes is a down side (as with most Wii games :(), as is how much story/cinematic there are at the beginning and end.

I'm looking forward to it. Already got it pre-ordered from amazon. Amazon is giving gaming credits for a bunch of games right now. Already pre-ordered Halo: Reach, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Two Worlds II, and Fallout: New Vegas.

This game looks wicked sick! Now I don't feel so bad that my fiancee bought a Wii instead of a PS3. Definitely a must play.

Also pumped. I loved the original side-scrollers including the GBA ones, Prime 1 and 3 (never got around to Prime 2...), and agreed that Team Ninja generally does good work. The videos I've seen of the gameplay look incredibly slick - never mind the cinematics.

FYI, Amazon gives $10-20 credit for preordering almost all console games.

I was out of town all weekend so haven't tried it yet. Maybe this evening after work I'll open it up and pop the disc in.

okay I been playing this, and I actually liked the FPS style better, once you get thru the 15-20mins of intro movie, that you CANT skip! it becomes very disjointed, as in one minute its a sideways scroller, which is cool, I like that, also works with the same layout as SSBB and that, but then the next your back to aiming the wiimote at screen for some 3d stuff, and then its flick between the two, its like its trying to please both, and the controls just come off as messy at times, after about 40mins of intro movies, cutscenes, 30seconds of play before next cutscene, I have given up, give me something thats easy pick up and play :)

IGN gives it a 8.5. This scares me quite a bit. Metroid should be nothing less than near perfect. It's never fallen short of that once (though Echoes was an unnecessary release). I'll admit that I was pretty pissed when they announced 1st person for Prime, but it turned out excellent with seamless gameplay. Other M appears to be very clunky from the looks and sounds of things. They really should have rehashed this and released it next year. Besides, since when do we need a Metroid every 3 years? Once per console seems like enough for me and I'm a HUGE fan of the series. The graphics look superb and I like how it ties to the story of Super Metroid (my favorite in the series), but an RPG presentation and melee attacks are really not what the series is about. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The funny thing is I'm not that big a Metroid fan. Haven't played one since the first on NES, so I won't be able to compare it to any of the other recent ones. The copy that showed up at work just made it's way to my desk... and stopped there.

Normally I'd agree with you. However, they proved me wrong with the Prime series, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

*sigh*

Does that make you cry a bit inside Mattroid?

My choices tonight are play this, or work on my Paperboy controls...

I just played a bit, and so far it's alright. Mostly tutorial stuff, and then the first level/boss.

Going to take a break to work on Paperboy now, but will probably go back to it in a bit.

My copy is in the mail and I should have it in a couple days.

Not really a Metroid fan osver? Say it aint so. Even someone who isn't a fan of the series has to appreciate the original. The first Metroid is and always will be one of my most memorable and enjoyable gaming experiences ever. One of the greatest console games of all time. Just seeing screenshots and hearing sound effects from that game really takes me back. I can't say that for most games.

Same here. Unfortunately, the ending was spoiled for me back then, so I didn't get the "shock" like so many did :(
