By now all of you probably know that all the good DIY paint strippers that were once available at Menards, Lowe's, and Home Depot are history, and many of us have resorted to crap products like Citri-Strip to remove paint from our cabinets—only to discover that it doesn't work worth a damn. Nothing that is labeled as "environmentally friendly" or "non-corrosive" or that doesn't cause some degree of cognitive impairment works worth a damn. So why bother wasting your time using it?
Well I for one refused to be penalized just because some dipshit ignored the warnings on some can of stripper he bought at HD and died from inhaling enough of it in an enclosed area. That's what happened—his mommy raised enough hell to cause the government to ban the sale of every good stripper that included methylene chloride (otherwise known as dichloromethane) in its ingredients—EXCEPT for commercial applications. Thus, if you have a business, you can still purchase effective stripping products that contain that one vital ingredient that separates the stuff that works from the multitude of crap that doesn't. And I got me some. And it works (and smells) just like the old stuff did!
I'll share this information with you all because our hobby and your quality restorations depend on it. But you have to promise me that you won't be a DUMB F**K and huff this stuff until you become a drooling vegetable and die, because then even businesses won't be able to get this liquid gold.
That said, go online and look up a company called "Flo-Strip". Order you a 5-gallon bucket of item number B4760PL5 and don't be upset when you have to pay about $60 to get it shipped. It's a hazardous material and can only be shipped by a freight carrier. They brought my little 55lb jug in an 18-wheeler!
You MUST have a sales tax license number issued by your state to make the purchase. The cool thing is, it can be damn near ANY business; it doesn't have to be industrial. Hell, I own an alarm company and they shipped it right out!
So I ended up MORE THAN HAPPY to pay around $180 shipped for this gel stripper, which looks, smells, applies, and WORKS exactly like other products I used to purchase before the ban was enacted. And let me tell you, it works in about 10 minutes in 70-degree weather! Citri-strip wants you to wait 24 hours and then it's dried so hard you have to sand it off! F that!!
But again I stress the obvious:
DO NOT USE THIS INDOORS;
DO NOT USE IT WITHOUT A MASK, GLOVES, and PROTECTIVE CLOTHING;
and for the love of God, DO NOT DELIBERATELY INHALE THE STUFF!!
IT CAN KILL YOU IN HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS IN A VERY SHORT TIME!
READ THE MATERIALS STATEMENT BEFORE YOU USE IT. BE SMART.
You're welcome. Good luck with your restorations.
